Luxating Patella

I definitely think a second opinion is a good idea, and by an orthopedic veterinarian if there are any in your area.

hi raminov i wouldnt let it get worse , my zeus had two five hour ops so waiting could mean a much longer op so more risky. defo get second opinion and make sure the vet has donie this op before. my vet is an offcial vetinary surgeon so one of the top vets in the uk he had done this op on cats before but does about one every week on dogs and also on puppys so the smaller size of a cat wasnt an issue. i also recall the vet saying have it done sooner rather than later as with him still growing it easier for them to grow new bone and tendons etc.best of luck and remember check the vet is experienced in this op

I concur with Spangle about seeking out an orthopedic specialist. Nearly all vets do some types of surgeries but only a handful do small animal surgery exclusively. Ask your regular vet who they use as a referral surgical center and see who the right person is. It won't take long to find the right place and have lots of confirming opinions on who the right Surgeon is.

Beautiful girl and know she'll do well coping with this little speed bump.

Here are the pictures of the x-rays if anyone is interested. It's hard to tell much from them, but you can see her pelvis and spine are not straight due to the hip being out of the socket. Looking at her in person though you wouldn't be able to tell anything was wrong with her hip. The other issue is her knee popping out which you can somewhat see in one of the photos.

Ok--this was a long time ago and may very well not represent any sort of good vet practice these days. Besides, this is about a dog.

Sneezer was my dog for many of my formative years. Her hip popped out of joint one day. The vet put it back and taped the leg up to let it heal. She ripped the bandage off and the hip popped out. Back to the vet, bandage again. We put hot sauce on the bandage and she figured out how to bite the bandage without touching her lips to it. Out again. At some point the vet suggested just leaving it and she would grow a new socket. And she did--and was just as agile and fast as ever.

Very clear images of the femur dislocation and the luxating patella on those xrays! I don't think I would let that go for very long, it doesn't look like something that's going to fix itself...
