Mercola Liver and Kidney Support?

Has anyone ever tried Mercola Healthy Pets Liver and Kidney Support? It is added to food so I was also wondering if it has any kind of flavor.

Rafiki and Jammu have both been on a daily regime of Denamarin for liver support. The cats and their humans are not fond of the daily pilling routine. Also, Denamarin requires fasting so they get the pill first thing in the morning and have to wait an hour before eating.

We will bring Jammu in for testing in the next few weeks to see if his liver issues have been resolved. If so, he will be off the Denamarin. We want to keep Rafiki on some sort of liver support because she had liver fibrosis last year. We will check her liver values the next time that she has to have blood work done but (fingers crossed) that may not be until next spring.

Sorry, I've never heard of it before and am always cautious of using any supplement that includes 'natural' ingredients, in other words, ingredients that haven't undergone vigorous testing. If you want to try this I would just recommend that you first research each ingredient to confirm there is no contraindication or side effects when using it in cats.

Patti, I agree and that was why I was asking. I think that if I could find a cat-friendly version of milk thistle, it would be better than all the other stuff, especially considering that this is also for kidney support and she does not need that.

If she wasn't so stressed out about going to the vet, I could have blood drawn to check for liver enzymes. She has zero symptoms so her liver may have fully repaired itself. The IM vet was very surprised with the positive changes when we had her last ultrasound done several months ago.

Is it possible to use milk thistle in just a smaller amount? Many human drugs are used in cats.

I have been looking into that, Paige. I know that the Denamarin requires fasting before/after dosage but that Mercola did not. I am wondering if that is because of the SAM-e in the Denamarin. I am also researching if taking milk thistle long term has any adverse effects.

I myself use milk thistle and have given it to my dog when on certain prescription meds and to one of my cats with IBD
