That is good to know. I thought I was supposed to have him neutered at 7-8 months, but maybe it's better to get it done now?

Microchip Lump?

Early Spay/neuter is often thought to be best. Some neuters are done at 4-5 months. Taj was neutered at 5 months.

The boys will be going in to the vet in the next couple of weeks. Is about time to ... cringing ... snip them 
... I know it has to be done. But being male ... well nuff said. Anyways. I would like to get them both chipped while there. I know there are different types of chips and not all shelters have the equipment to scan for more than one chip. Do you all have any recommendations for finding out what is prevelantly used in my area ... I would hate to get a brand of chip that may not be recognized if they ever got out.

Yes! When I have bought microchips, I have bought them for about ten bucks and my vet will insert for free. Most vets will, grim my experience. Buying at the vet is usually between thirty to sixty dollars.

Where do you get the chips from? I could see my supplier asking ten bucks...NOT!
Sometimes chips move around, they can do this because they do not irritate or inflame the surrounding tissue. I would not worry unless it becomes a scratching matter, the incision when removing may be worse than a non-scratched chip left in place.
and by the way, sorry for being tardy answering, but sometimes things pop up and I'm sent away someplace with baaaad web connection or even no access. I get paid to do that kind of thing (or ordered, I spend my days in uniform), so I obey. I have to.

That is a relief. I was wondering what had happened. I like Home Again as their chips are wildly read and read easily, well, unless they end up at the Guilford County Shelter that must have chip readers from the 1800's. On average they are a good chip and non-irritating although a bit more expensive.
A vet doesn't need to implant the chip but you do have to know what you are doing!
I have had one chip actually fail. My vet did an xray just to verify that the chip was still there and it was. I always recommend double checking that your chips continue to work at subsequent vet visits.
