Okay i will have them do the PCR tomorrow first thing in the morning. When I first took him they didnt drain the fluid they just took a very small sample

Eddies

Eddies a ham!
Coronavirus is separate from the cat so not in their genetics. A glitch in their immune system could well be genetic though... but they have not identified any genes involved at this time. As they work out the pathogenesis of the FIP-form of the virus they will likely be able to work out what about the feline system might be most important and hence what genes might be involved on the cat's side too...
Please forgive me; There were 2 posts on 1/24 = constipated 5 week old kittens & Rex 9 month old is sick; Brigette could the kittens & Rex both have had the coronavirus...? I hate sounding ignorant but...

Hoping it's a brighter diagnosis!

I would not think constipation means FIP, coronavirus infection tends to cause diarrhea... and the FIP form of coronavirus is not at all infectious to other cats, only the benign coronavirus.

Hi I finally got my results for the PCR test it came back negative!! thank god, but the vet is telling not to get happy because based on the fluid in the abdomen and the fact that the Fip ELSA test came back positive a week ago he thinks its still fip.

Based on what Brigitte told me the PCR is more accurate and elsa test just means he had the coronavirus, Im thinking of taking Rex and the results to another vet.

Rex looks slightly thinner but weighs the same and I thinks hes eating around the same amount as before, its hard to tell. His abdomen also looks slightly less round. Hes not as active as before but hes walking around more than a week ago :)

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hope you find something soon. As with kittens most of the time with corona virus the experts say they do get the infection from
Mom but doesn't show up
Till 9 weeks of age. It would cause diarrhea. Are your 5 week old kittens starting to eat? Mind barely start to eat at 5 weeks. They still fully nursing.
