My Savannah

Hello. Didn't know how else to get in touch. I need help! I have a 2 year old savannah f2 second one that is having seizures our first one died of them and the doctor couldnt figure out why! I was wondering if anyone knows anywhere that is a good place to read up on these kinds of things or if anyone has any ideas or thoughts?

That is just awful. I'm so sorry. First thing I would do is see if there is a veterinary neurologist near you. A specialist may be able to help in ways a regular vet can't.

Did the cats come from different breeders? If not, I'd start asking the breeder if there is a hereditary component. If from different breeders, it's anybody's guess what's going on. But you might think about environmental factors that could be causing the issue -- contaminants of some sort, parasites, household cleaning products. Could be any one of a million factors. Is you cat exposed to areas where there are raccoons? Raccoons carry a roundworm called Baylisascaris procyonis. Cats can pick it up from walking through contaminated soil/grass. The worm migrates through the optic nerve and brain. It's not a common infection as far as I know, but then, I don't know if many vets even think about it as a possibility so it may be viewed as uncommon because no one tests for it.

Did your vet do a necropsy on your first cat?

Eddies

Eddies a ham!
What are you feeding the cat? check for recalls, food poisoning can cause seizures...

Where are you located, Cflanzbaum? Is there a university near you that has a veterinary department? Have you tried a second opinion from another vet for your F2 ?

Is your current F2 a replacement from the same breeder for the first one who died of seizures? I agree that being in touch with the breeder(s) is important to perhaps get some insight into what is going on.

My condolences on the loss of your first Savannah :( I hope you quickly can find some answers to the cause of the seizures...keep in touch here and let us know how your F2 is doing!

Ugh, how scary! Is the second Savannah a replacement for the first? If so, is it related to your other Savnnah? I agree with Deborah - you need to look for environmental causes, espectially if this cat isn't related to your other Savannah. Switch over to bottled water if you haven't already. What tests has your veterinarian performed aleady? Has he/she run any blood work or sent any toxicology studies?
