Nala is attached to a toy, help!!

Its one of those silly fishing type toys where u have a stick and make it bounce and move like a marionette?? She tore it off the stick. She carries it around in her mouth. She throws it in the air and plays fetch with it by herself... but its almost toast. And since one of the other cats found it and hid it and she cried and was morose until I found it. It occurred to me I might have a problem on my hands. Petco doesnt have another one.

And is this normal behavior?? She's like a toddler with a blankie!!!

It's the norm around my house. Each of my 4 gets fixated on a toy and plays with it until it's trashed or until I toss it out because it's no longer safe. I usually have to hide whichever toy is trashed and toss it out when the cat who loves it is asleep to avoid the tantrum. They get over it eventually. I usually buy 4 of each kind of toy because I never know which cat will love it and which won't care about it so there are always extras to replace a beloved one.

Ok. Nala is equivalent to a 4-5 year old human. As you probably know, they can be very possessive of toys or " Blankies". My suggestion would be to get a new toy or two and try to interest her in it (them). Then quietly and secretly remove the old one. DO NOT discard it, JUST IN CASE she goes really over the deep end. But TRY to distract her away from it. Also I am sure other, more experienced, cat people will have suggestions.

Yep. She is gonna be a broken hearted kitten. Sigh. You really cant understand having one of these cats until u have one. I mean how do u convince someone that a Savannah is like adopting a human toddler. Same adjustment period. Same starting to bond. Same insecure dont leave me. Its seriously not like anything ive ever experienced. A psych would say Im anthropomorphizing. But he or she would be wrong.

Honey, it is just your love for the "almost human" Savannah. And psychs do not know nearly as much as they think they do. These little creatures are SPECIAL and so loving, and most people do not understand our devotion and love for our fur babies. Their problem...NOT ours. ;)

Sounds like normal savannah behavior to me.
Might want to try a serious search on the internet to replace that toy.;)

I haven't had much success in actually getting them to accept the replacement toy despite it being identical. The one that's lost always had just the right amount of dirt and slobber on it and no way will the new one ever come close.

Anyway, I hope you find a suitable replacement toy for Nala!

Definitely normal. I got my cats some beautiful toys from Hyendry for Christmas...I had been putting it off because shipping is expensive but I finally gave in.
My sister is away so we are dog sitting their dogs...and her big fat dog ate Zeddie's favorite new toy from Hyendry! Zeddie was so sad she kept nosing the spot the toy was supposed to be
