I think a narrowed trachea was a contributing factor in my F2 (pictured) death at 5 years old. He was given a daily dose of gabapentin for his hyperesthesia and I would mix it in with his food. I think some got on his vocal chord and his throat locked up...I found him dying on the carpet just after feeding him and he was gone by the time I got him to the vet. Autopsy said his throat locked up and he suffocated. I have a new F2 to try to make up for the grief and as a companion for my F5 but it is hard work (and sleepless nights) getting the 4 month old kitten acclimated to the 5 year old F5. I feel sorry for the F5 having to put up with all the kitten behavior.

Sorry for your loss and I can't even imagine how difficult that was. Having watched both our kittens gasping for air over a couple week period was heartbreaking and the X-rays of Dino showed that there isn't a lot of margin for ailments of the throat or other obstructions.

Hopefully your kitten starts slowing down a bit and what's now viewed as a nuisance for your F5 will be the start of having loads of fun together.
