It may take a few days for his system to adjust before he uses the litter box. Typically they will pee after a day or two but may not poop for several days. Are you comfortable filling us in on why his owner(s) gave him up? I hope he settles in without too much challenge. Be patient with him. Thank you for updating us.

The previous owners want to travel more, esp to Florida (I am in Pennsylvania). Should I have 2 litter boxes for him?

Standard recommendation is to have 1 more litter box than the number of cats, so two would be preferable. Once he's out of quarantine, the boxes should be in different areas of the house, away from noisy and busy areas.

And please post pictures when you have a chance. We never get tired of looking at everyone's beautiful cats.

Savannahs tend to bond with one person and an F1 is more intense in his bond, so not only has he lost the person he has been bonded to all of his life, but he is now in a strange, scary new place, and he has no idea why this is happening to him. As long as you are patient and give him the time and space he needs to adjust to his new life I think he will be okay.
