Tazz arrived in our household last week and I realized very quickly I was going to need all the help I could get. We are very quickly savannah proofing our office among other rooms in the house. I am hoping once he grows more he will figure out that the top of the flat screen televisions and/or monitors are not a good place to be nor are the insides of lamp shades - lol. I would gladly welcome any and all advise. He is such a cuddle bug I would hate to change that by constantly having to run him off of and away from things that could hurt him.

HA! Welcome to the world of SV owned humans. This is your life from henceforth. The good news is that you'll burn through significant calories, especially during Tazz's first year, trying to keep him and your valuables safe. By the time you pull him off the TV and/or monitor for the gazillionth time, you'll start to think maybe it's not so bad for him to be up there.:big grin:

Ha!! that is so true! All our treasures are gone and the only place that I continue to get up and spritz them for is the stove top! I also vacuum and dust more which is probably a good thing (although i sometimes wonder about that!!). No longer can you be lazy and put the dirty dishes and pots away "later" which is one of the hardest things to get used to!! :roflmao:

I have a carpenter coming next week to install some shelves just for Tazz that are higher than anything else so he can "rule over his domain". The carpenter laughed when I told him what I needed and why  I have other cats who realized quickly they were too big for certain spots, but Tazz seems to just think that is the challenge and makes the game more fun.

Welcome Lynn! No, it is unlikely that he will accept that the flat screen TV is not a kitty perch...some cats just like those positions. When everyone is sitting and watching it, then of course they want to be there so you are paying attention to them!

Savannahs do tend to make us tidy, put things away so that they won't be ruined or played with... they are not for people that are precious about their "stuff", LOL! Get used to the term "Savandalism" as it is one we have to use often ;-)

The desire to perch on top of the flat screen TV does not recede with age - just make sure it is well anchored. BTW, I haven't had a lamp shade in my house for several years now...

Should I be worried about the ceiling fans?? We have one in each room and normally they are moving, but now that it is so chilly, they are turned off. I noticed Crazy always looking up at them, but I dont' think he can jump up and try to hang from them??? Or.....:uh oh:
