New Savannah Owner

Wellness makes a Beef and Salmon, why don't you see if Jengo likes that? It's sooo hard to judge how big a kitten will get, although if you know how big his parents are or he has older siblings that you can ask about, you might be able to get a better idea. 10lbs is probably on the high-normal side for a later generation male Savannah

Hi! I'm Charley and ran across this site looking for questions about Savannah's. We are brand new owners of a now 7 month old Male F7SBT named Jengo. He's been with us for 3 weeks and he's our first pet together (11 years and going strong) and our first pet since childhood.

It's definitely been a FUN and awesome experience with our kitty, he's similar but yet so different from any cat that I ever had growing up.

I have a few questions about Jengo. He's a VERY vocal kitty which neither of us mind at all, infact we find it pretty funny and meow right back at him. He makes an assortment of noises that I have never heard a kitty make and he's VERY active. So far he has 3 modes - sleep, eat and play. He seems like he's getting braver, he was very skittish with us and our house at first (having so much space didn't help either.) He's a good eater as far as not being finicky but I've noticed he rarely finishes his wet food (we feed him wellness no grain wet food) UNLESS it's tuna - which I read wasn't the best food for him - so maybe we got him addicted to tuna? I'm currently mixing a bit of tuna in with other meats and trying to ween him off of it. Does all of this sound right?

We ADORE our kitty and can't believe we didn't get a Savannah sooner.

Welcome Charley;>) Some ar talkers and others are not. I see he is 7 months old and I assume the talking is unrelated to an intact male;>)LOL As long as the tuna is cat food..you will be fine. If it is human food...not good as the primary food. Cat food contains taurine(which all cats need) . Believe me...he will not starve himself if you withhold the tuna while getting him to change his diet. Hopefully he will settle in for you nicely;>)

Jengo will be neutered Tuesday - I hope that won't effect his chattiness too much. We love having a vocal kitty - at first it was really weird but we also encouraged him to chat by meowing back at him.

At 7 months he as large as a full grown cat so I am guessing he will get a bit bigger and be just larger than a typical cat but have the savannah proportions.

Neutering did not affect my F6 Boy's chattiness

I'm positive neutering will not affect his chattiness! The chatty SVs just tend to be that way! Although I will say- sometimes maturity may calm down the chattiness a bit!

Good that the neuter is scheduled...I know you don't need a spraying talker!LOL I am sure he will return home from the neuter and tell you all about the procedure. Just love him and enjoy watching him grow up.

It has for Taj...he is almost 3 years old and not quite as chatty, but still lets me know when something is on his mind...which is quite often
