New serval at home?

Hello everyone, we are looking to buy a new serval *kitten. I know this is a savannah chat but since they hve similar genetics I thought you guys could help,

We live in a 200 squared netter apartment. Is it ok to keep him as indoor cat? I hve read that if raised from young they act lie refuse cats just with the need of more exercise.
I hve a friend who owns lions and tigers (licensed private breeder) he ha over 16 hectareas and the lion himself. Has over 1000 sq meters. And so for tigers. He has servals and told me he had them indoor until he got his presa canary dogs and they started fighting, he put them in the garden. But he told me it ok to have them indoor. As he had them. He said they act like cats just a bit bigger. Nevertheless I wanted your advise.

What do you guys think? Can anyone give some advise?

Sorry for my first blank post....trying to figure this forum out all over again. Manaci you are to be commended for doing your research on the Serval. I personally own Servals and I just don't find them suitable as pets. They take much care and space and they are not necessarily flexible to a busy household or lifestyle. They tend to tolerate humans and co exist with them but hardly do I compare them to a dog or another animal that we all consider suitable pets.

Brigitte and sue. Thank you so much. Regarding partner concerns we am have been married a few years already. I live with my wife in our own flat. For me the most important thing is for the animal to be happy. I understand your point about my friend. What he told me is that if you don't sterealize in time they start pissing everywhere. However if you do he told me they stay to make popo and peeper in litter box

I really appreciate the help it's really nice from you. I just want to make sure the animal will be alright. We do not plan on having children anytime soon. However when we do a realise tht children should be apart from both cats and dogs as well (if the case) serval

The thing is with a Serval you have to "plan" many years out because of how long they can live. Introducing a newborn/child into your lives in 5, 10 years could upset the cat terribly for sure. They just take a lot of work, patience and time to get them to a point you can easily handle them....I've spent years with mine and in spite of that they do not tolerate vet visits or procedures well nor change in their routines...there are just better choice than a Serval.

Just want you to know that sterilizing "in time" does not really make a difference. All Servals that I know of, whether pet or breeder, spray and/or walk down the hallway when you are not looking and poo in the corner!!!! It is pretty rare for a Serval to poo and pee in their litter box! They are very particular about things and anything can set them off. God forbid they already took a poop and then later they need to go again and find out you did not scoop. They will not use a dirty box, they also do not cover pee or poop, and usually won't pee in the box they poo in! Strange creatures they are! Gotta love them for what they are and be prepared.

This is where problems arise. You decide to have children a few years down the road, and now no longer enough time for the cat and pretty soon he/she is left alone outside, and then people decide things in life have changed and now it is time to just rehome the cat. Please think long and hard about your decision and please keep the cats best interest at heart.

Well, do you rent your apartment? Here, usually an apartment is rented and I can't imagine too many landlords wanting a spraying machine. Plus, your poor neighbors! The smell is pretty intense!

Sue and the others have excellent advice :)

Sent from my so called smartphone so all typos and bad advice can be blamed on said "smart" phone ;)
