New To Savannahs

Hello, my name is Reed, and I am wanting to learn more about servals and savannahs. The genetics, breeding, behavior, care, everything!

I'm currently in the Army, and unable to keep any pets, especially not with a deployment coming up, but I hope by the time I'm able to keep one, I'll learn enough from you all to get started!

Welcome, Reed, and thank you for serving in our military ;)

Definitely a good idea to wait until things settle down... Although I have an Air Force gentleman with two of my kitties- but he knows I'm here to babysit if he ever is deployed for a significant amount of time, it can be hard on the kitties and owner when separations occur.

It's a big topic of course...what you asked about. If I could be concise, minus breeding and genetics as I am an owner and not breeder, in terms of behavior they can be very owner needy and often follow me around similar to a dog. I for one like this. Mine almost always sleep with me or will follow me to the other room when I'm around the house. Care, similar to domestics in most regards, other than I like many owners choose to feed them supplemented raw meet. There is a wide body of info on this SCC forum and so many people who are willing to help. So welcome! Best of luck in getting your future SV. dj

Welcome Reed and just make sure to do your research, ask as many quesitons as you can and wait until you are settled down...

Since this is a savannah forum, we really do not focus on servals...

Welcome Reed, firstly thank you for serving our country! As for Savannah ownership, you will find a wealth of information on this forum, but if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Servals are another matter entirely - they are not domestic animals and require special permitting and housing in most places. If you are interested there are probably serval forums you can join as well.

Hi Reed,

I just brought home our 1st Savannah today, Spartacus. So far, so good. He is very talkative and very focused on myself and my husband. Take care of yourself on your next deployment. Hope all goes well and you find what your looking for in the Savannah breed.
