non-stop "talking"

Have you tried just before your regular bed time to create the routine... vigorous play session (get him TIRED and/or panting), late night snack and then your usual night time routine of teeth brushing and getting into bed. By tiring him out then feeding him you have the best chance of him then settling for a good sleep.

If all that doesn't work, you may need to get up and put out of the room and shut the door. I do this with kittens that think a 3am playtime on my head is appropriate... and within a week of quietly and persistently doing this (picking them up and turfing out of the bedroom) they've learned to take it elsewhere...and learn that the bed is for quiet snuggle time.

Don't make the mistake of playing on the bed either, then the cat thinks the bed is the right place to come to ask for play too...

but ask others have said, he might simply be a very vocal cat and he's settling in which probably means he's got a lot to say...and you can hope that with time he won't feel that urge so much. Do get the vet to check them over, he's a bit young it seems for something like a thyroid issue which can lead to yowling but still...you don't have a health history on him so it might be worth running bloodwork for a baseline for the future..

Vet is a deff thing this weekend. Im already in the process of setting up his appt for early in the morning incase they will need to keep him for a bit.

We do have a play time with him, but also, we are looking for things he finds amusing or entertaining. He seems too smart for the simple play mouse, and almost too smart at times for the stick and string mouse. I think as for playtime he may still be feeling us out, as he will play for short burst, then act uninterested and watch what we do afterwords. We deff do not let him think play time is on the bed, and so far he seems to understand that the bed means its time for him to settle in. BUT, that does not stop him from trying to get us out of bed at random times.

I also had a case of him hissing at me last night. He was chattering away around 1am and I had woke up, since I woke I decided to use the restroom...on my way, he stopped by the side of me and let out a 4-6second hiss. This is only the second time he has done this, the first was when he got home. He was in the box from the shelter, he had messed himself, and when I let him out the box he let out the most wicked hiss ive ever heard from a feline as he ran to find a corner to hide. (After a bath -- which he adored having-- he calmed down and no longer got angry, up until last night).

I echo everything Brigitte has said - you need to wear him out at night before bedtime, whether that be playing with a wand toy or taking him for a walk, or wherever works for him. Plus be ready to turn him out of your bedroom the next time he wakes you up. You will be surprised at how quickly he learns what is appropriate and what is inappropriate behavior, once you respond to (discipline) him in a consistent manner.

My F7 is extremely talkative and was at night. I would wear him out but then a few hours later he would get the crazies again and wake me up to just chat with him. I ended up using calming treats from petco - they are all natural and safe. So our routine would be play, eat, play again, have a treat and sleep. The treats helped him get on my schedule. Now he's ready for bed before I am, hahaha - and I better not dare disturb him, lol.

My F5 male Sterling developed the habit of "talking" in the middle of the night for a while, for reasons still unknown. He usually sleeps in our bedroom, so kicking him out when he started helped a bit. But the thing that helped the most was buying interactive toys. His personal favourite is a track with a ball in it. He hunts it, sneaks up on it and then pounces and bats it from one end to the other. Granted it's still noisy but I found it easier to sleep through. I also got a tunnel for him to play in, and I'm not sure if this is a Sterling thing or not but he LOVES straws. Give him a straw and he'll play with it for hours and then settle down and chew it until it's a flat piece of plastic. Worth a try perhaps?
But yes I mirror what everyone has said, play with him as much as you can, try and find games you find entertaining to, so that playing isn't a chore (because lets face it, puppeteering a mouse for 30 minutes can get old fast), and get him interactive toys that keep him interested. Also of course, walks as much as your schedule allows.

This is the ball track, you can change the shape of it, which I've found helps keep them interested. I got mine at Walmart.

Jammu loves that thing. For the longest time he would play that right before bed and first thing in the morning. He thinks that daddy is the better player but will indulge mum with some play as well but we must cover part of his side of the game board with paper to give himself a "handicap" when playing with such an inferior player. He gets highly annoyed when Rafiki joins in.

That's the one that convinced Sasha that it's more fun to play than hide under the bed the day we got him home. He was out from his hiding place in no time and was playing with us at the other end. He still plays with it whenever he's bored or when he can't sleep even tho it's past everyone's bedtime.

It sounds like maybe he is "calling", he is waking "mom" up on purpose, he doesn't really seem to want anything....calming treats, interactive toys, & consistent responseso_O are needed to change the behavior, it's going to get worse:( before it gets better because the "servants" are about to change the rulesred heart... stereo on, motion activated toys on, sound activated toys on, kitty play balls available:big grin:...lights out. I cheat tho...I hide treats so they have to actually search for them, Eddie used to watch me:rolleyes:, now I wait till he's eating his bedtime snack to hide them.

Our f5 boy diablo is a talker and a night owl. He got his name after several nights of sleep deprivation on our part.

We cut down on the 3 am yowling an complaining by (1) providing a bed time snack, ( 2) providing evening play, and (3) providing him with his own snuggle spot. Our dis most interested in having his spot. Good part: not much yowling in the middle of the night. Bad part: he likes to boop me in the head. And/or tap me in the face or pounce on my hands. But he knows that if he is a pest, he gets kicked out of the bedroom. So he is mostly a pest after the alarm has gone off.

My F5 just started going on and on at night. It's definitely a play issue even though he plays non stop. He has been dropping toys in the bed and waking up my F7. I can tell Spring is here lol they both get antsy. Problem is he won't play alone he's very particular about who plays with him. He will bring you the toy and drop it on you and look at you until you're uncomfortable. I'm going to try play. Eat and calming treats/rescue remedy.
