Obscene care costs

ketamine is hallucinogenic. End of debate. To avoid this being a problem, you sedate the animal (cat, dog, human, whatever) with a sedative that outlasts the ketamine. No hallucinations. No sedative? No ketamine. Simple as that. And ketamine is wonderful when you need safe, short duration anaesthesia. Believe me! But 120 USD xtra for other stuff? Help!

Nitro, the savannah does not necessarily have a smaller liver. When Taj was very ill, he had ultrasounds and Cat Scans and X-rays...his liver was the normal domestic cat size. It may be that people think the earlier generations of savannah cats have smaller livers...my quesiotn is where is the evidence? How Many savannah cats have been examined and have smaller livers?

I do think that savannahs have a leaner fat percentage and more muscle mass, so absorption would be the issue. That being said...my vet uses Ketamine and I have not had any issues...no prolonged hallucinogenic effects. I think it all depends on the vet and how much ketamine he/she uses as well as the cat...

In my area it's ALL in the 250-450 range (bloodwork required) and routine care is expensive too in my opinion. I did initial vet shopping and called every vet in my city and the neighboring cities. Not one of them here used ketamine though when asked.

The low priced spay neuters $40-80 at the shelters are available only for low income households and you have to provide a series of documentation to get a certificate to get on that list. Location perhaps plays a big part?

Location does play a bit part, BUT any place that only has extremely high spay/neuter prices tends to also have an issue with high pet overpopulation in the shelters, IMHO. While a lot of families CAN afford those expensive spay/neuter bills, when it comes to a monthly cost- I think a lot of people tend to put it off... Lobbyists should spend more time lobbying for low cost spay/neuter clinics for EVERYONE (or free) versus their ridiculous breeder bans and whatnot that they tend to lobby for.

IDK - my vet is expensive because he just is...he sold out to a corporation, which I just found out and now has no wriggle room when it comes to pricing, which I am very unhappy about...he does work with me, but still...

As for politicians and lobbyists...I agree...but those lobbyists are not looking out for what is best for animals.
