Is this common. I have seen a lot of talk on here about cats not using their litter boxes. I plan on having two. Should I have more than that. One upstairs and one down. Also how long do you isolate them when they first come home? 5 days?

They should be quarantined for 2 weeks and the breeder should give you instructions, but...we have an entire document on this that Deborah put together here: http://www.savannahcatchat.com/thre...ing-your-new-sv-to-your-home.1959/#post-26198

I have never had an issue with my cats not using their litterboxes...you need to keep the same litter your breeder used for at least a month and keep it in the same place all the time as kittens become confused.

Thanks Paige. I was going to keep him in the master bathroom with his food and litter box there. When u move them out of isolation can u move the litter box? Wanted to keep it in the washroom as a permanent spot downstairs

The best thing to do is keep the original where it is and put one in the washroom...eventually you will be able to remove the one in the bedroom...

Our baby has been home for almost 8 weeks now. We used the master bedroom as her quarantine space. We have her cat tree/condo, her bed, food, and litter box in there. I bought a piece of furniture that looks like a night stand to keep her litter box in just so I didn't have to look at the litter box day and night:eek:

Aniyah has done super and has not had any issues with not using the litter box. We still have everything in our bedroom and just installed a semi-permanent baby gate on our door mainly to keep the dogs from snacking on poo ;)

Eventually the litter box will be moved into our laundry room as well but for now it really seems to be working so I figure "Why mess with a good thing?!" I'm thinking maybe 9 -12 months I may move it. Especially if she out grows the one we have!!!

We thoroughly shampooed the carpets, blocked off under the bed, got another litter box, and he is STILL using the carpet to urinate! I juts bought some kitten attract litter which I had high hopes for and filled one of the the litterboxes with it, but he just tries to eat it! Help!

Brooke, if you did not use the enzyme cleaner we referred you to, it is just not going to work! You can shampoo till the cows come home...he can still smell the urine and that is why you need to use an enzyme cleaner...

I did use an enzyme cleaner, he is simply urinating in different areas of the carpet now.

No. He is now using the litter box for both #1 and #2 though! I am so very relieved, we haven't had any messes since switching to kitten attract. He is still nibbling on the litter though, which worries me since it is a clay clumping litter.. Have a vet appointment next week for his last booster, plan on mentioning it then.
