On The High Rail

Elsa in the new house loves to jump on the High Rail/Wall that boarders the steps going downstairs, and all of my discouragement she continues to do it and looks at me as if to say "What's The Big Deal"? Any idea of how to convince her not to do this... From the edge she is on now is a VERY long ways down... and no carpet to soften the stop on the way down...

John. Mine insist on wrestling on a 8 in deep 3 foot long shelf, 7 feet up on the wall with a desk and compuetr underneath. They have each fallen a few time and usually get up shaking their head and limping off. Scares the hell of me!! But will they listen? NO! Must play dangerously. Sigh...

Yeah.. I know what you are saying... When I fuss at her, she is like... So what's the problem.... with that big smile on her face that no one can get mad at... UGH... Oh well... A long time ago she made a BIG jump and limped off at the old house, and she learned from that one... I hope her next lesson she doesn't pay the ultimate price or break a bone... Maybe I am too over protective of her, but that is the only way I know.

Is it possible for you to build a step and walkway system from the railing down to the next level. I see a brick wall in the pic. You could anchor the system into that wall.

The only way to stop her is to take the rail off and make it a solid wall, Cody can open draws and cabinets and we stop him but when we leave the house he does want he wants to do. it's the Savannah way .

Rafiki has been known to jump up on our wrought iron railing - 1" wide rail with a drop of 10' down to a wooden floor. Gives me freaking heart failure every time. And while she is very athletic, I cannot say that she is particularly graceful and coordinated.

Have something similar in my house. A loft, and the ledge drop to the room below is about 16 feet. Mystique scares the life out of me, when she walks along this ledge and then goes and jumps onto the window sills. Two windows are side by side and above this drop. I can't reach her if she goes to the second window.

We have thought of getting a piece of glass wall made, that will be mounted on top of the ledge. Not sure if even this would discourage her from trying to jump over it, to get to the windows?

Have another ledge that looks like this one, over a staircase. But she doesn't seem to go onto that ledge? Probably because the windows are farther from the ledge.

I feel your fear!
