Is it the Pringles syndrome? Seriously, I have made several comments about wanting to get a playmate for Venus. I think she would benefit from have a partner in crime to "rough house" with. Her and Tess are such good friends, but there is to much size difference for rambunctious play.
My question is simply this. What is the better option to find a good companion for her? Adopt a kitten so it grows up with her (Venus is currently 7 months old), open my home to rehome a retired breeder, or a rescued adult. Would there be any difference between a male and female with this in mind?

There really is no better option :) It is what you would be comfortable with! That being said, an adult, depending on the age, might not appreciate a kitten...but a young adult cat would, I'm sure. You don't have to get another savannah - it could be just another high energy kitten...my females all get along, so since you only have one kitten, I don't think gender matters :) Hope this helps!

As Paige has said, there's really no right or wrong answer, it's whatever you feel will fit best for your household (and you can afford). If the cats/kittens are neutered I don't think gender will make much of a difference, although females in general seem to be more energetic and independent than males regardless of whether or not they are intact.

I think that given your Venus is still a kitten, you could fairly easily introduce an adult. I would say that you would expect it to be a longer transition for that adult than for Venus to your home...it is harder for the adult to adapt to a new home and it is already owned by a rambunctious "toddler" kitty! Still, it could work and probably does not matter male or female although I think female cats often accept a male better but that would be more when she is an adult and thinks of herself as queen! Right now she's a princess in training :)

But of course another kitten would be the easiest to introduce... and as mentioned there are other high energy breeds that might work just fine...even if I understand wanting only Savannahs now!

To be honest, I would like to get my hands on an earlier gen savannah, an F3 or maybe F2. Really fighting the urge to pull the trigger on a kitten now. But I'm in the middle of some home improvements so I keep telling myself to hold off. If there was a rescued or retired young adult it would be more feasible now, but if I gotta wait I'll wait. All these pictures of kittens that some of you have on your sites though are NOT making it easy on me.

We shortly considered opening our home to a rescue or retired breeder too, before we choose our little Amani. All previous pets (mostly dogs) I had in my adult life were rescues and it is extremely grateful and rewarding to give them a new and good foreverhome.

Would a retired breeder be more willing to accept a younger cat, if it were a female? That's for the experts here to answer I'm not sure about that.

While redecorating your house, introducing a new cat, baby or adult, might not be the most elegant timing though, especially if its a higher gen? On the other hand, choosing one, especially a kitten may also mean you will have to wait a while anyway before you can take him or her home.

Good luck on making your decisions!

I think you will potentially find a wide variety of personalities in retired breeders, depending upon their past life and current situation. Many females become possessive and territorial once they become mothers... on the other hand, some are always in mom mode and easily adopt any young kitten they can get their paws on. When introducing new felines into the family I would stick to the tried and true routine of quarantine/isolation first, then gradual introduction to the rest of the feline family members.

Thank you for the well wishes Emmi.
I'm not redecorating the inside of the house currently. I'm doing some siding and gutters. All outside stuff, once we get back to decent weather!
The sooner I can get the siding done, the sooner I can get the outside enclosure built.
