Whew...glad you have the worst part of the journey under your belt.

I think your idea of not feeding them their usual amount of food tonight might make them hungry enough to eat the doped food...

Thanks to everyone who has put up with my neurotic questions on here. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

Cats are in hotel room and playing and exploring. They seem happy....very affectionate with me.

They are playing and exploring. They are happy and affectionate. I think that they will forget this trip and adjust very quickly.

Have you tried pill pockets? They work with some of mine. Especially if the pill you're giving isn't too large. You can get them at any pet store or online and they come in different flavors.

Hi, they're very finicky. I tried it once and they gave me a look like "you can't seriously expect us to fall for this ruse".

I think I got this under control....I only gave them 1/2 of a can of cat food and they're begging me for more food now. Will just ride out the night and hopefully they will go to sleep.

Then in the morning they will be so starved that they will be forced to eat the sedative laced wet food I'm going to give them.

Just wanted to get some food and water in their stomachs for tonight. Am just playing with them now, trying to keep them occupied and burning off some of that typical Savannah energy.

Is it possible to upload a video to this post? I took a 30 second cell phone video of him trying to talk to me, but he's having a harm time because he's purring at the same time. Kinda funny. Shows off his spots really well.

Make sure they don't see ya mix the pill in. My vet uses peanut butter on pills, which seems to work.

I feel for you, driving for hours with howling cats is miserable. If you have to use the pill popper I would suggest you first change your attitude toward it - you don't have to manhandle a cat just to get a pill down. Scruffing is not manhandling and it does not have to be done roughly. It is a natural act that mom does to her kittens, so cats typically respond by going limp just as they did when they were kittens and mom did it to them. If your cats are the ornery type and fight the scruffing and the pill popper I would suggest that you try to stay as calm and soothing as possible as you are scruffing and popping the pill down. Try not to get exasperated because they will just pick up on your frustrations and respond in kind.

Hopefully they will eat the pill in the food and this will all be a moot point...

Try a larger carrier they can both fit in together for starters. Worked wonders for us. Also, there are seat belt harnesses that allow the cat to move around a bit on the seat and look out the window, but prevent them from moving around so much that they could compromise the safety of driver etc.
I've considered hamster type water bottles for long rides ourselves, but so far we just wet our hands repeatedly and let cats lick us. The kids love that. At stops we give them a dish of water in some form.
