Danielle, if I were you, I would sever all contact with the breeder. IMO, she is totally inferior as a breeder and she must also be completely stupid considering the number of complaints against her due to her habit of selling sick cats. I would not send the kitten back to a breeder who sold it sick in the first place if I intended to keep the cat. How can you trust anything she says she will do? I have no faith that she will take it to a vet for appropriate tests and that she would even administer the right meds.

You bought a cat from someone with a horrid reputation. You have no guarantee she will treat the cat well if you send it back; there's the chance it will either die in her care or come back to you in worse shape; if she has a replacement clause in her contract, you're risk is that she'll send you another cat that is compromised in some way.

If you love the cat and are prepared to spend the money to get him well, do that, enjoy him, love him, and walk away from Taryn as fast as you can.

My gut tells me I won't get him back or he will die. I figured I was being paranoid. Thank you for your advice. I will the food and litter changes and hope for the best.

Danielle, did any of the vets you took him to do the upper respiratory PCR that others have recommended? If not, I hope you will ask for the test. If he is ill rather than having allergic reactions to something, changing food and litter won't help cure him.

No none of them have. I was going to take him back to the VCA and hopefully they can do it.

They should be able to, I've had this test run at other VCA hospitals. If they send out to Antech Diagnostics, it is Fastpanel-PCR-Feline-Upper-Respiratory-Panel and if they use IDEXX Laboratories it is Feline Upper Respiratory Disease (URD) RealPCR™ Panel .

If for any reason you are not satisfied with them, I would also highly recommend ACCESS for emergency and specialty vet care. I am pretty sure that Rafiki would not be here today without the aid of Dr. Bianco at ACCESS. I agree with WW that this should be your next step. You need to find out if this is something that is treatable. Right about now I want to hang Taryn by her most painful parts for the suffering she has caused to so many furbabies and their owners. Thank you very much. Joining this site has already helped me a great deal. I really don't want to lose my lil guy. He is an emotional support animal for me. I am a Wounded Warrior 70% disabled. I needed a pet to help me with anxiety stress and PTSD. Unfortunately with all the issues (sickness and violent behaviour) it has added stress instead. I don't wanna give up on him but I am mad at Taran. She wouldn't give me any paperwork proving his pedigree. She says he is a junglecat and savannah mix. She only met with me in a store parking lot. I should have been wary then.

Your story is the same as everyone else's - to a tee. If it came to Taran I would not even bother thinking about allergies at this point, but am somewhat upset that your vets didn't recommend the PCR before this. I will warn you ahead of time - this is an expensive test... I believe I spent $179 for my last PCR. Doxycycline will take care of any bacterial infection that the PCR tests for, but if it is viral then no amount of antibiotics will help and your hands are tied to using supportive methods such as lysine, healthy food, and antihistamines to treat the symptoms.

No, Taran has all sorts of weak excuses why she cannot provide proof that the kittens she sells for a profit are what she claims that they are. Given what we know of her program, your kitten is likely a majority of Chausie with a tiny bit of Savannah thrown in (the sire is a Junglebob/Savannah cross but something like 6 generations away from the Serval).

Danielle, best if you just chalk this up to a bad mistake and let go. Getting mad at Taran is useless and why bother adding stress to your life over something you can't control.

It amazes me how Taran continues to get away with selling these poor sick kittens. She seemed very sweet and nice when I talked to her a couple years ago, but after some sketchy answers to my questions and further research online about others receiving sick kittens I never called her back.

The only good thing is this kitten got away from a horrible breeder. I hope the little guy gets better soon.
