Oh do we ever have antics!
I'll see if I can get a video of Rey bringing Michael her feather stick tonight.

She has been bringing it to bed recently, which means Michael and I are cuddling with our kitten between us, while she holds her feather wand.

I'm sure it is quite a sight.

Do the SV experts here believe that separation anxiety is more common in higher gens? My F2 struggles a lot with this (but he's also my first/only SV)

Again, I don't believe you can generalize about generations, especially with something like separation anxiety, which is not a very common ailment. Separation anxiety can occur in any generation, and in any cat breed for that matter. I've never heard of it occurring with more frequency in one generation over the others.

You need to go with your gut feeling on the breeder. You are right that Patti bought her cat a long time ago and things change. I do allow people to come and pick up their kittens in person, but I don't allow lookie lous! If local, I try and deliver the kitten! This way I get to see where my kitten will live and also make him/her feel more secure.

Have you checked out any other F2 breeders? Is that the generation you have decided on?

Hi all,

Thanks for the reassurances. I'm fairly certain I still want F2. I've spoke with the breeder over the last few days and I guess my doubts were giving her some doubts. She vaccinates the kittens at home and did not have a reason to take them to vet. I asked about socialization and I was forthcoming about my work schedule and such. I guess she's concerned that I am gone up to 10 hours a day, 3-4 days a week and it seems F2 kitten requires intense socialization so she did not want to sell me either kitten (almost 3 months old). She thought I may be better off with older kitten - she has one 6 months old kitten (presumably F2). I thought the younger kitten the better in terms of bonding with a human companion. She did not mention how much for 6 months old kitten. She said that 6 months old kitten was bottle fed so she is very human bonded.

I'm relying on your expertise - should I consider older kitten or should I consider another breeder? With a large purchase, I have to see one before I make the purchase (of course, a deposit is required to hold a kitten). You could say I've been burned in the past not related to kitten purchase though.

There is some misinformation about the breed and you have to take it with grain of salt. Kittens of any breed require proper socialization or they would end up like feral. Most cats do not enjoy being at vet that is to be expected so whether vet says Savannahs seem like they don't make good pets - it is apparent vet has not seen Savannah outside of the vet hospital or the cat did not receive proper socialization. Given the Savannahs are highly intelligent it should be fun to train them to do cool things - fetch toy for one.

Paige - I'm not fan of looky-loos either. I thought it would be nice to see the cattery of course I keep a distance from the unvaccinated kittens. I also welcome breeder to bring the kitten to my house. I don't mind driving up to 12 hours to meet the breeder and pick up the kitten. Road trip can be a good excuse to get away from work.

Ethan, older kittens are fine as well, BUT...there is not much difference between three and six months old. A six month old kitten may adapt ok, but may take a bit longer.

So the kitten never goes to the vet? Not even for a checkup? What about fecals?

In the end, none of us can make the decision for you...Perhaps you should look at other breeders and the distance from you and speak with them...I take it you are from AZ?

Paige - I agree. I am a bit perplexed why she does not want to sell me 3 months old and thought 6 months old would be a better fit since the litter was bottle fed. One would think SV kittens are sold quickly maybe I'm mistaken.

Yes, I asked if the kittens have been to vet for health checkup and her response was I vaccinate kittens at home and none of these kittens had a reason to visit the vet. I don't know how old kittens should be checked out by licensed vet. I also asked about health certificate she said it is not required if I'm picking up the kitten but is required if transported via air cargo but if I insist on health certificate it would be additional cost.

Given some red flags and doubts I've had I think I have to go with my gut feeling and try locate other breeders. I live in CO - south of Denver. I am willing to drive up to 12 hours one way. Know any breeders that will have F2 litter shortly? I can't emphasize enough how important it is that kittens receive early and proper socialization. I admit it is a bit frustrating at this point since I was kind of excited about bringing SV kitten into my home but I have to step back and re-evaluate breeders.
