Poorly 7 month old kitten

Not long ago Loki our beautiful F4 Savannah kitten came home with us. He had his neutering op last Wednesday which went fine, when he came home he brought my his ball to play fetch (his favourite game he's so active and loves playing, obviously I didn't let him run or jump, but he was in high spirits) but by the weekend he wasn't really eating and sleeping a lot. We took him to the vet first thing Monday to find he had a very high temperature and had to stay in their hospital over night. His temp went down slightly but not very much. Our vet recommended we transfer him to a specialist hospital to stay and do tests which we did. Unfortunately we got the news last night the there is a mass in his intestine. The vet suspects cancer but will confirm after test results come through today. I can't stop crying and the idea that he may have cancer I find hard to understand as he is so young.

So I guess I am asking if anyone else has had similar? I know we will get results soon but I am finding it hard to take in.

Oh goodness, I'm so sorry to hear what your going through with your little chap, god bless him! I really hope that it is something treatable, we have in the past had a male cat who took not well after neutering operation, high temperature and vomiting, I recall it lasting about a week and he got better. With regards to the mass in his intestine, could it be possible that he's swallowed something ? Our Vito had same symptoms as Loki about 2 years ago now and it turned out that he'd swallowed a 12" ribbon which balled up inside his intestines. He did recover thankfully. Though he was very poorly for a good week. Loki seems very young for it to be cancer but it can happen. Everything crossed here for the little man, please keep us updated. Sending love and healing from his savannah cousins here in Scotland UK.

Thank you so much. Unfortunately I just got the awful awful news it is cancer and has spread. Although they can't operate they will start chemo and see how that goes. I am in shock and my other Savannah Leah is comforting me and cleaning up my tears! I don't know what to do, I can't even see him yet, but fingers crossed he reacts well with the drugs he might come home Friday. He is my baby and I just feel so upset I don't know what to do.

Oh no, I'm really sad to hear that Lorna-Jane , was so hoping it was going to be something else. I pray the chemo does its job and things improve, sorry I don't really quite know what to say, that's a heartbreaking diagnosis, I hope you get to give him cuddles soon. Stay strong and keep us posted. Leah will know something is wrong, they are very intuitive cats and pick up on your emotions, you are all in our thoughts.

Thank you so so much. Yes I think Leah knows things aren't quite right, and she's missing him a lot, she slept in his bed the other night and she never does that. I need to try to look after myself which when I feel like this I find hard but I will try. He needs us to be strong for him.

They are such sensitive souls and know when you need support and love, you need to stay strong (easy to say, I know) if you are in the UK where about are you? I only ask this as the Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital in Edinburgh specializes in such conditions. Make sure Leah is getting extra cuddles, she will be missing her little friend.

Yes I am in the UK, in a town called Farnham in Surrey which is a little far from Edinburgh I am afraid, but thanks for the recommendation anyway. Our vets recommended us to Anderson Moore's Veterinary hospital near Southampton which apparently is very good, all going well we will go for weekly visits and it was so much information I can't even remember for how long, I did ask the Vet to call my partner later as I couldn't take it all in. We will make sure to give Leah lots of extra cuddles :)

Your a long way away from us then, I'm glad you've been recommended to a good hospital, I'd highly advise (in my opinion) to visit Loki, I know a lot of vets discourage it but, he will be feeling strange and confused wondering where his mama is and I strongly believe visits help, perhaps take toys and a blanket with the scent of his own home to help him settle. Best of luck to Loki and I hope we hear some good news soon.

Oh I think I wrote that in a confusing way. Loki will live here with us then we will take Loki to the hospital once a week for an hour long chemo appointment, but if Loki doesn't come home Friday I will visit him for sure. I can't wait to give him kisses and cuddles. Thanks so much, I will be sure to keep you updated
