I've not had Cerenia do much either when it has been prescribed. It does things differently from Pepcid AC so might still be worth trying that.

As Patti says, make sure it is the stage 1 baby food, so the only ingredients should be chicken and water. Later stages can sometimes add onion and garlic and obviously that's not a good thing for a cat! I usually warm the jar a bit and then offer it on a spoon. For some reason, that kind of personal touch makes it even more irresistable ;-)

You can also try getting ground chicken and boiling up with a lot of water. It's nice and bland for their tummies but they often really like it too. And the extra water is good... even if they just lick the water and leave the ground chicken you are getting a little nutrition and moisture into them...

Definitely better to have the vet check him over than wait too long. Keep us updated!
Thank you , how much Pepcid AC

Just an update... Monday morning was good and his activity level was much better... We have him the Pepcid and I think it worked. By around 10 that morning we took of his cone and he ate a little kibble and drank a bunch. When I got home from work I did the same thing and he ate some more again. Now he's not eating like a pig yet but slowly getting better. We have also stopped the pain meds as I think it was doing more harm than good. He is back to purring with lots of kisses this morning when we woke up

Thank you everyone for your support during this stressful time. He has ate only a little bit in the last two days. We have been feeding him baby food with a syringe when we can and he enjoys it ? He sniffs his food but only will eat it once and a while and only a little bit . He is drinking non stop and using his little box but no #2 yet. Today the doctor said to give him mirtazapine for appetite enhancement . He is purring and head butting us in the morning as we have been sleeping in the guest room with him since Saturday but still seems a little of . Trying to avoid bringing back in to the hospital because they will have to sedate him to give the examination and I don't want to stress him unless its absolutely necessary .

What food are you offering him?

I have found when dealing with serious illness in my cats over the years, that when they are sick they aren't always tempted by the food they normally eat, like kibble.

If you think that he is enjoying being syringed the baby food, how does he react if you warm the jar and offer it by the spoonful? I've found mine will lick it off the spoon and if I have to spoon feed the entire jar then that is what I have to do. But if he's enjoying that then he might well also enjoy some boiled ground chicken. I get the ground chicken fresh at Whole Foods, then boil with a lot of water so it is soupy and they seem to find that attractive. Others prefer ground beef cooked that way. Try lots of things and see what tempts him...anything to avoid returning to the vet for his sake?

Try canned tuna, cooked shrimp... some people find strips of cooked steak tempt them... sandwich turkey. The idea is to get him eating anything, you can worry about dietary needs later on. With one of my cats I tried everything and then found out the wet form of Meow Mix tempted him. Disgusting stuff but he ate it. When he was well again we weaned him back onto a better cat food.

Hoping the mirtazipine works, it helped one of my cats during a rough time too...
