Leo did the same thing when he was younger. He would be so busy running around playing that he then couldn't hold himself. The shocked expression on his face when he would start to go was really funny and made it difficult not to laugh. I used the cat attract litter, put him in the litter box and scratched around in the litter with him every 30 minutes, and heaped TONS of praise each time he went. I think he still waits until the last minute because of the size of the clumps he leaves. He also comes running to me after each time looking to hear what a wonderful, amazing kitty he is.

Agree with Patti! Genny was being lazy... The only kitten I have ever had that peed where she is not supposed to, so I added a shorter litterbox for her with cat attract... No more accidents

I'm planning towards adding taller boxes, because he kicks half of the litter onto the floor (and once peed in it too)

It doesn't happen more than once a week, and he uses his litter box A LOT. If the 6-8 litter boxes don't work, I'll try cat attract.

Have you tried Cat Attract litter? It might encourage him to be a little less lazy and go in the appropriate places...

Maybe I'll try it out for the new house as he wont be used to the layout (I'll be keeping them in the open for the most part too).

I find his sister is his cat attract lol. He likes to use her box the most.

Zuko runs crazy happy when he's done in the litter. I'll try exaggerating praise when he uses his box. I haven't done that yet.

I feel partly responsible most times, because we forget a coat or purse on the couch or floor (for 10 minutes) and those materials just call to him.

Unfortunately there are some kittens/cats that just prefer the texture of material to litter. I have known people to experiment and 'cure' litterbox issues by using different substances such as fabric, newspaper, or dirt... sometimes it takes a bit of investigation to figure out what the kitty wants... but they sure are good at training us, aren't they???

I have known people to experiment and 'cure' litterbox issues by using different substances such as fabric, newspaper, or dirt... sometimes it takes a bit of investigation to figure out what the kitty wants... but they sure are good at training us, aren't they???

It doesn't really bother me too much. I clean everything thoroughly with soap and water, and then an enzyme spray.. We just learn to make changes to suit him! Coats and bags shouldn't be laying on the floor or couch anyway. XD Good thing is that the new house we will have a cat trap (boot room) and Andrew will be forced to do it hahaha
