Some cats truly are okay with that idea, having their own room and regular visits by their human...and find it preferable to living out in main circulation with other cats. It's not ideal, but sometimes the best solution for the problem...

It's definitely perplexing as he had quite a few visits from Chongo in "his" space without any issues. They would thump each other, watch the birds together, shared the litter box and so it isn't a Chongo issue. Like I mentioned, after his time out of his room he was fine and only upon return did he feel he needed to re-identify his space as his own. Not sure I'll ever figure out what's going on in his nickel head but he's still a sweetheart.

I admit to having my own older male cat issues here. Not a peeing issue but a weird sudden aggression issue... having eliminated the easy explanations it's just frustrating :-(
So I feel for you, as we try our hardest to do the best for all our kitties... but without being able to speak their language sometimes there is just a disconnect in understanding their motivations!
