Rafiki not eating

I will not be held accountable for what I do to the next person that stupidly says that she will eat when she is hungry!

So tonight I definitely determined that lack of appetite is not the problem. I started by giving her 6 good size pieces of kitty crack dosed with Mazuri. She devoured them with great enthusiasm. I sprinkled 2 oz of RadCat with a more than liberal dusting of more crack. She ate all the crack and wanted more. I kept up the dusting and she ate almost all the RadCat. She ate about an oz of the kitty crack. I am not too sure how much this translates into actual food but the package says that it takes a pound of meat to create 3.5 oz of freeze dried. And yes, she is drinking a lot tonight!

So I will put off my trip down to my sis-in-law until Saturday to pick her old formula Darwin. I will also see Rafiki's breeder and get some of his raw. I am definitely getting her off of the Darwin on onto home ground. It was so convenient until it suddenly wasn't. Per Darwin, "We made only minor changes to the formula, with the inclusion of more muscle meat."

Anxiously awaiting the blood work results.

Went back to old formula Darwin tonight . First I gave her a couple pieces of the freeze dried dipped in Mazuri as an appetizer. I liberally sprinkled the Darwin with the magic kitty crack and watched her lick every crumb off the food. But then she actually started eating some of the food. Unfortunately, Jammu finished his chunks and came to see what Rafiki was eating and then the chase was on. Sigh. Try again later tonight.

Rafiki ate 2 oz of Darwin new formula tonight! Could it be that the hunger strike is finally over?

In my experience, cats can take awhile to adapt to changes in diet. Every little nuance seems to bother them for a bit so they counter through a hunger strike among other things (like peeing in your shoes). It could be that she just needed to adapt to the new formula or she's tired of being hungry. Will look forward to hearing if she continues eating the new formula.

The problem is, cats need time to transition to a new taste, texture, aroma. It can take days, weeks, months. The trick is to keep offering the new food in small amounts until the hissy fit passes. Most people give up after 1 or 2 tries and move on to another food and the process just stays in a nonproductive cycle.

What's this magic kitty crack? I have these nightmares that some day Radcat might change and Sasha will stop eating it. He doesn't eat anything else other than radcat raw.
