If you're going to do dry, Acana is a great food. That is what we use for kibble as raw back up. Hope Rafiki is feeling better soon!!

Went to 3 stores looking for Acana. First 2 were closed for the night. Last store did not carry it. I tried what they recommended as being closest - Orijen. She wont touch it. I broke out the Stella and Chewy's duck duck goose and she ate 7 pieces. She will only eat this dry. She snubs if I add water. After that I broke out some Starkist tuna. She ate almost the entire can so about 4 oz.

Sounds like the kibble is going to go the same route as the rest of her food choices - you will spend a lot of money on food she refuses to eat... Hopefully she will continue to eat the new Darwin formula...

Orijen is from the same company as Acana, but it actually has even more protein. My crew liked it but it gave them loose stool so we switched to Acana. I've heard others say Acana is typically better liked as far as taste goes. I can't get it local, I have to get it on Chewy.com and it usually ships within a day of ordering.

Another suggestion to get her to try different foods if Fortiflora. It's another type of kitty crack.

Maybe try syringe feeding her? Whip up the kibble and water in a blender until it's smooth enough to draw into a 3 cc syringe and force feed her?

I forgot about the Fortiflora. I have some on hand. I will try adding that tonight.

I am headed down to Orange County within the hour.
  • Picking up about 10 lbs of old formula Darwin from sis-in-law
  • Picking up ground bunny from breeder Mike*
  • Picking up ground chicken from Mike
  • Writing down recipe from Mike
* Mike has been really great thru this. He is headed to a friend's house to pick up fresh rabbit to grind for me. How great is that?

Ordered an American Eagle grinder today.

This morning, Rafiki ate about 2 oz of ground chicken thighs, some kitty crack, about 1 tablespoon of StarKist tuna and a little less than an oz of cooked minced chicken. All of the above had Mazuri added.

SUCCESS!!!!!! I brought home about 12 lbs of old formula Darwin. I gave her 2 oz to start and added fortiflora and sprinkled 1 piece of kitty crack on top. She devoured it and asked for more. I gave 2 oz more with fortiflora but no kitty crack and the bowl was licked clean again! :):):):):)

Tomorrow morning I will give her just Darwin again and start slowly adding in the home ground tomorrow evening, knowing that I have 12 lbs of food to transition with.
Suddenly I do not care that I spent 3 hours and 45 minutes out of the last 6 hours stuck in traffic! tri big grin:
