Everything certainly seems to point to infection, but it is so frustrating that the vets are unable to pinpoint anything!!! :-(

My internal medicine vet is back from vacation. He contacted my regular vet and had her send all the blood work for 2016 for both cats to him. He agrees that surgery for bigger biopsy samples would be the way to get the most definitive answers but understands that we do not want to go that route. He also agrees with me that steroids alone will not work but that a combo of Convenia and Prednisone seemed to work the best last time. We are bringing both cats to see him tomorrow. Shhhh.....don't tell Rafiki!

Jammu weighed in at 18.5 lbs. He had an ultrasound. His liver is somewhat enlarged but not as bad as Rafiki's. He still shows some thickening of the intestines. He is being placed on Ursodiol for 40 days. The vet does not want to use anything extreme as he feels that Jammu looks great and the liver does not look so bad.

Rafiki weighed in at 14.96 lbs. The vet still thinks that a biopsy would give us better answers but did not push it. Rafiki was given a shot of Convenia and will be on prednisone for 4 weeks.

The vet thought that both cats looked really good and would think that they were in perfect health if it weren't for the lab results. We are to continue giving them Denamarin and we will bring them back to the regular vet in 4 weeks for follow up blood work.

It sounds like they are doing ok except for the labs, so fingers crossed the meds will do the trick

One week into treatment. We are able to feed the meds by cutting a slice into freeze dried duck tenders. Cats are loving their meds! The prednisone has given Rafiki one heck of an appetite. I have increased her meat by 1 oz a day. 1 more week to go with the full dose and then we will taper off the dose for the next 2 weeks.

Glad to hear the fur kids are being good for mom and taking their meds so well. I have a hard enough time getting Shango to take his monthly heartworm pill. I've resorted to crushing it into a power & mixing it in his raw food for breakfast.

Hopefully the meds continue to resolve the problem. I'm sure it's incredibly frustrating when they seemed in good health if it weren't for the labs.
