I am Florida helping my Mom get settled for the winter and will not return home until Sunday morning. Rafiki has now thrown up 3 days in a row. Not huge amounts. Yesterday she threw up after getting her freezedried duck tenders. The rest of her meal was digested. We have been weaning her off of the prednisone and have been stuffing her 1/2 pill in the tender. After she had thrown up the 2nd time, I told the hubby to start giving her a 1/2 pill every other day instead of every day. When I went to bed last night, she had snubbed the tender/pill combo and I don't know if he was able to get her to take it. She has been taking l-lysine since her eye infection several months ago. A year ago she had mycoplasma infection and I just read the thread on issues that l-lysine can cause. We suspect that whatever bacterial infection had caused the liver fibrosis last year may not have been iradicated so we gave her the same treatment (Covenia + prednisone) that had worked last year.

If the prednisone is upsetting her tummy, how fast can I get her off of it? We had her on 5 mg per day for 2 weeks and we are now at a 1/2 dose for a week and now a 1/2 dose every other day. Can I just tell the hubby to stop now?

Could the l-lysine be suppressing her immune system instead of boosting?

Have you talked to your vet about giving her Prilosec for upset tummy? When Taji was first diagnosed with IBD, he couldn't keep anything down, even the meds, so my vet recommended 1/4 tablet for him (he weights 11 lbs) once per day and it was a god send.

I think that what happened before I left was that she had over indulged in food thanks to the prednisone. She did not throw up, she just wasn't hungry for a meal. I left Sunday night and she ate just fine. It was Monday that her stomach started getting upset.

My hubby has not spoken to the vet. She would require that she see Rafiki and I don't know that he can catch her. He said that Rafiki was hungry and spunky this morning. The timing seems to coincide with her getting duck tenders - either as a treat or to get her to take the prednisone.

I would continue to try to give her a pill every other day for now, and if hubby can't get it down, just consider it part of the weaning process. If she goes more than three days without it I think you can stop...

Hubby said that she did not get sick at all yesterday and was bouncing off the walls and being a royal pain in the a$$. In other words, back to her Savannah ways. I could hear her telling him how starved she was last night when I called. She ate all her food and polished Jammu's bowl as well.

She had 14 days of 5 mg of prednisone followed by 9 days of 2.5 mg. She wasn't feeling well on Monday and did not get a dose but got a 1/2 dose again on Tuesday followed by no dose on Wednesday/Thursday. I think that I may have to consider the treatment complete as she is snubbing the pill stuffed treat and hubby cannot pill her.

I think that she is happy that I am home! Tried rotating the pix but they insist on being upside down
