It is so frustrating breeding one of the most outgoing, personable, unique and majestic cat breeds only to have so many people look down on them because they are not the SIZE they thought they would be. Savannahs are an amazing cat breed that should be given the respect they are due. I just wonder how those cat breeders can claim their cats adult size will be 30-35 pounds and not have everyone coming back angry that their savannah only ever grew to the normal savannah size of between 10 - 18 pounds (which is a generous size)!

It seems the first question people ask is: How big? And then they ask: How much?
These seem to be the only 2 questions the general public is really concerned about.

You are soo right Alison! It is extremely frustating this whole size thing. It really hurts the breed when some breeders emphasize only the size. I have Servals and they just are not that big. When people say their Savannah kittens will be 30 to 35 pounds when full grown I have to scratch my head. Female Servals are only 18 to 25 pounds full grown so how would one expect a Savannah to get larger? The male Servals are generally 35 to 45 pounds, some are smaller and a few are larger but usually they are overweight too! So again, how would one expect the males to get as large or larger than a Serval? Especially the lower generation kittens! Really wish breeders would wise up and stop advertising an unattainable size.

I was a little shocked cause my vet said ... "So you got what is gonna be a 30 lbs cat"

I said "no I don't think either of my boys will get to be 30 lbs. Zeus will prolly top out at 18 lbs and Abu if he is lucky will be 21 - 22.". I continued "both cats are going to look large, maybe they will look like 30lbs but I doubt either will get close. And Abu is going to be a very large cat by all indications"

You would think a vet would be a little more informed...

Hi Paige,

I take my animals to "Flemington veterinary hospital". I would like to "help educate" these guys if you will because they are 4 minutes from my house door to door. The next closest is 20 mins further away. They are a little more expensive, but don't mind the additional because it's less stressfull on the animals.

Yes, closer is good. I use Cats Exclusive in Ridgefield...they sued to be 10 min away, but when I moved seven years ago, I tried different vets near my new location and just didn't like them...so I travel about 30-40 min, depending on traffic. But it is worth it...I truly love my vet!

Personally I wish my little monkey boy would've stayed 5lbs, he is so cute...now just over 7lbs at 6 months, and I think he's about to have a growth spurt, he's started asking for more food, which he's never done before. Uh oh.

Loki finaly got fixed and gained a pound in a week. They also did the ultra sound and found out it was ok to do the fix. We are waiting for the results from the Cardiologist.
Tiger is 19 pounds F5C Male almost 2yrs
Bintu is 17pounds F5C Female 1yr and 5 months
Loki is 8 pounds Male 5 months

Wow these savannahs are quite large! You must be so happy with your boys, even your female is an impressive size.

I guess I am more curious as to how much everyone else kitties weighed at 5 - 6 months

at 5 months they were both 2.3kg, at 6months cheech is 3.2kg and anna is 2.8kg. i think cheech will be quite a big boy, anna was the smallest of the litter,

i have a boy and girl f5 they are 4months and 3 weeks, they both weigh 9lbs

What scale are you using to measure kg vs lbs? 1 kg ~ 2.2 lbs.

P.S. Not trying to make a point; just more curious over which weight is correct.
