Rate of Growth

Loki and Stoney are gorgeous. I've been reading this thread avidly, since my little girl is HUGE. The vet said if not for her teeth she would suspect that she was 16 weeks instead of 10 weeks. (She's 4 pounds 9 oz.)

I was sure hoping for a % chart for growth, and what's normal. But, it looks like from what I've been reading that what's "normal" and rates of growth can be all over the place. Including big girls like my Nala slowing down, and little guys becoming really big.

I'm told it's virtually impossible to overfeed a kitten, so I feed her when she tells me she's hungry.

F5 D will be 2 in July. He is 14 lbs.
F3 Jarvis turned 1 in February. He is 17 lbs.
F4 Mickey will turn 1 in June. He is going to be the smallest, he is 10.5 lbs.
D is the tallest and longest. Jarvis is lean, but heavy boned. Mickey is much smaller than Jarvis and D.

D is holding steady at 14 pounds. Jarvis is up to 19. Mickey is our little guy at 12.
Diablo turned 3 in July. Mickey turned 2 in June. Jarvis turns 3 in February. I'll try to post photos tomorrow. Jarvis is both taller and longer than D.

I have largely given up on trying to figure things out with rate of growth. They all seem to encounter spurts and stalls along their growth path and there isn't much consistency as to when those things happen.

While I am still continuing to make sense of the adult size of Savannahs, a trend line exists dependent on sex and generation, but the deviation amongst any group is fairly large. Just the same a trend line exists, and I would imagine that earlier generations also have longer duration in their growth. In all there's a big range, even when you get down to just 70% probability.

In closing it's good to track things, although not so good to have expectations based on charts or the experiences of others. There is truly a broad range of how these things work out and none of it gets in the way of having a fun loving and loyal friend.

Thanks for a preliminary assessment. It is passing the smell test to me. Everything I have read on the forums tends to suggest a high variation rate.
Too bad we can't figure out a metric for personality!

I completely agree with you John. Not only is there a wide range of variation in growth patterns based on outcrosses in the pedigree and other genetic predispositions (not even taking into account sex or generation), but there is also no way of guessing the final size of a kitten when reaching adulthood based on birth rate or growth rates in the first several months to year.

my five year old F2 male that died was 25 lbs

Zeddie is 3 now, and a consistent 9.6 lbs. She is an F4

Kilifi 10 lbs + a few ounces, At 2.2 yrs old.

While Loki still eats like a lion, his weight has leveled off at 26.5 lbs. He seems to be stretching a little, but probably about done at 32 months old.
