Recommendations for breeders on the west coast/Should I adopt now or continue saving?

Hello!

I'm currently looking to adopt a savannah cat. I'd ideally like to spend around 2500-3000 range and I'd prefer a breeder that is within 8-10 hour driving distance of Southern California. I have a couple questions that I was hoping you folks could help me with! :)

1. What generation will most likely fit my budget? I've been looking around and I've noticed there is an enormous range in prices. I've seen everything from F3's to F7's fall within that budget and I'm not sure how to go about determining whether the breeder may be over pricing or whether the price is too low (aka a warning sign about the breeder or cat)

2. I'm interested in a breeder that provides HEALTHY!! spotted golden/yellow savannah (can be male or female, small or big, as long as its healthy) Any breeders you know that have a good history of producing gorgeous spotted fur babies? Also, what is the best way to tell whether a kitten will have a great spotted coat as an adult?

3. Do you feel that 2500-3000 is a reasonable price range for a healthy spotted gold savannah or should I save more money and wait longer? I know the 'type-ier' the kitten, the more expensive it is.

I'd appreciate any feedback from this knowledgeable community of fellow feline lovers. Thank you!!

There are breeders list on the forum here:
http://www.savannahcatchat.com/forums/savannah-cat-breeders/
There is also a breeder review section on this forum. Of course there are more breeders than those that are listed, however the breeders listed here have been vetted and are responsible, knowledgeable, and honest.
You are correct that there is a wide range in the pricing depending on how the kitten meets the breed standard and of course the generation of the kitten.
With the budget you have listed you COULD find a F3 kitten within that range but they are not common. So I would tend to look into the F4 and lower generations.
Depending on what you are looking for you could be well under the budgeted price too. When I was searching for a kitten near me I was searching for a personality first. Looks came second, and it was just personal preferences for me because I am not breeder and do not intend to be. For my beautiful and purrfect F5 female, I paid less than the low end of your budget.

Hi Jasminekeem...welcome! Pricing all depends on the breeder - the typier the kitten, the more expensive usually. But also, some breeders give most of the vaccines, microchip and s/n their kittens, so their pricing may also be higher. I do all of that and my prices are usually higher than most. That being said, it depends also on type and sometimes area of the country.

You may want to broaden your horizons and not just look on the West Coast...if you are dead set o golden/black spotted, that also may take more time. perhaps you may want to just look at kittens from breeders here and see if there is a kitten you fall in love with.

I know @Brigitte Cowell is in Cali and has two kittens, I have a litter of F5 SBT kittens coming up in April, but I am in NJ...that being said, one of my kittens from the last litter lives in LA :)

Not sure who else has kittens for sale, but take a look in the breeders directory as well as the kittens for sale...I think Brigitte's kittens are there.

Thank you Paige! I'm not at all opposed to broadening beyond the west coast :) I will definitely check out your kittens :)
