Savannah cat bathroom issues

Hello, I am new to the forum. I have a couple questions if anyone could help me to figure this out, it'd be great. My husband and I have recently purchased an F1 male savannah from a breeder about a month ago. He will be 2 in April. Its been a challenge with him in gaining our trust and getting him used to us and his new home. He did have some accidents due to stress but he has been using his litter box regularly since we got him. I don't know if its the stress of him still getting used to us or a savannah trait..... When cleaning up our living room we had a bunch of blankets laying in the corner. We found diarrhea on them. Then just tonight we hear a weird noise and look up and he is going on my husbands jacket that's lying on the floor. It's a jacket that he had just started wearing within the past week. We checked his litter and its perfectly clean. Does he not like the smell of the jacket or is he just marking his territory? He rubs on other items of my husbands like he loves them so much. Lol. But he hasn't went on anything of mine. He is definetly a unique cat and I look forward to all the savannah quirks however this little trait must stop.

When you say 'he is going on my husband's jacket' do you mean he's having diarrhea or he's urinating? If he is having diarrhea he may have an infection and having problems controlling his bowels, which would warrant a visit to the vet. If he is urinating then it's very possible he is just marking his territory, but he could also have a UTI again warranting a vet visit.

It's a pretty well know fact that Savannahs are aces at training their humans to pick up after themselves because they love to urinate on, or otherwise destroy clothing items lying around on the ground, particularly dirty laundry. My best advice would be to make sure you don't leave clothing, blankets, towels, etc. lying around on the floor.

He is having diarrhea on his jacket. We are taking him to the vet later today. He hasnt done it often so I was thinking it couldn't be something requiring medical attention. But we are taking him just in case.

I would qualify that by saying that peeing on the clothes on the floor is NOT a Savannah trait, it is something that some cats do - regardless of breed. I think I've probably has 30+ Savannahs over the years and have never had one pee on clothes on the floor. I did have one that used to pee on the bed right where my head was as soon as I would get up in the morning, but again I would not consider that a Savannah thing, just something an occasional cat is prone to do.

Anything on the floor is fair game as a litter box... books, CDs, luggage, clothes, towels, plastic grocery bags, coats.. all of this is from 1st hand experience. So glad that is all in the past!

Agreed! And drop-by visitors always marvel why my house is always so "clean and picked up" ;)
