Now i'm all paranoid about cedar and pine so i've decided to change things up and I ordered a bunch of cardboard tubes to wrap in sisal and use those instead.

You could also use pvc pipe to wrap the sisal around. Just another idea if you don't like the cardboard tubes or need something sturdier.

Those cat wheels are so cool! I've had my eye on one for a while, but I'm not quite sure where it would go. I need to get some shelves installed.

Thanks Patti! My original plan was to leave some of the wood exposed as an optional scratching post in case sisal wasnt preferred. Now i'm all paranoid about cedar and pine so i've decided to change things up and I ordered a bunch of cardboard tubes to wrap in sisal and use those instead. I did wrap one of the pine posts in sisal and glued everything down. I'm fairly sure that the glue will seal the wood fairly well, and I think it would be fine, but now that it's in my head that the pine could also be an issue i'm just paranoid. Plus I figure the cardboard tubes will be straighter and easier to level anyway. I may still use the one pine post I wrapped as a horizontal scratching post. If nothing else, it was good practice for the whole wrapping rope process!

Here are a couple of pics of how the post turned out. I was pretty happy with it. I'll end up doing the cardboard tubes the same way.
Excellent excellent job! Getting it tight is a big challenge. I didn't glue mine I just tied it off very tight. So far it's holding up. But mine isn't as long as yours. I want to build a cat tree ( and I've seen some posted ) from a birch tree. Had this idea for quite some time. Done some investigating and I've yet to find a tree that I can cut down myself. I almost had one, a lady friend was going to have a beautiful birch tree removed. She was going to be out of town but gave me permission to go a day early cut down what I wanted then the next day the tree cutters would remove the remainder. Sounds toooooo perfect! The tree cutters came a day early. So I've decided to make friends with a tree cutting company. Pay them a tree finding fee. I've been wanting to do this for 2 years now. I know that the tree cuttings must remain outside for months to ensure anything living as found a new residence.
Well after all that if you see in someone's yard a tree that has been cut down ..... could use thick hefty limbs for bracing/ support. I know my kitty runs to the trees she knows she can climb on our walks. Guess it something about getting those claws into the bark. She always looks so happy.
Your doing a fantastic job keep up the excellent work!
