I just adopted a savannah cat he's 7, he was in a home where they had a shock collar on him, it got stuck in his mouth and the owners left it for days. Now he has ulsers in his mouth and he's not drinking water...what should I do?

i assume u adopted jaxon the f1 ? i told them to take it off as i see it useless for an indoor cat as for not drinking he may be a little depressed being bounced around from place to place plus they said he used to be an outdoor cat which im sure he misses alot

I'm so sorry rob I got defensive people have been saying bad things to me about jaxson. I thought you were someone from my work who's been talking about jaxson negatively

Brianna, that is horrible! Please get him to the vet ASAP - he likely needs fluids and medication. He needs attention ASAP.

Completely agreed, Jaxson needs veterinary attention for the mouth ulcers... he probably needs fluids and medications and monitoring if he's not eaten nor drunk anything for days. Poor kitty :-(

I agree with the others - if you are able to handle him you need to get him to a vet. If not, perhaps they can give you a liquid sedative that you can squirt into his mouth (would take some skill) so that you will be able to handle him enough to get him to the vet. One way or the other, you need to get him seen.

My mother has a cat shelter and a lot of cats with the herp virus. She gives them unflavored pedialyte and even the most picky cats will drink it, because they need the hydration. When the sores get really bad, she takes them in for steroid shots and it makes a huge differences. Find a canned food he will eat and add water. I havent seen my cat drink water since i got him but he is plenty hydrated and i pretty much just feed him wet food.
Does Jaxson have the virus? Thats what it sounds like. Its an off and on respitory issue followed by lesions.
