My very first Savannah is 75% Bengal, he has the softest silkiest coat...it is completely delicious yet not at all what we want in the Savannah...still he's the one our friends love to pet most

Same in this house. Everybody remembers the softest fur. Also helps that this cat will let anybody come up to her. This cat is what started my sister on Savannahs. (member Sue).still he's the one our friends love to pet most

To so many people, misinformation has equated rough coat to malnourishment. It's hard to explain to city folk, but, sound here, you tell them that Savannah fur feels like a deer. (West Virginia) LOL

I think the Savannah fur is softer than deer fur. But then again, the only deer fur I have felt came off the front end of my Explorer.

Ooooooo..........maybe a malnourished deer.
Also remember that our Savannahs are indoor cats hence their fur is going to be softer for that. When I've felt Servals they have had a much coarser coat but they are generally mainly outdoor cats in enclosures...
And spaying can soften a coat I think... my F1 Missy's coat got significantly softer after she was spayed...

question off topic a bit...I notice on some of their ears the hair/fur tips above the top of the ear...like a lynxx....is that all to some degree or just depends on the Gen. or outcross? Just curious...I like the look...I hope my little guy gets some Serval ears...not sure with a Bengal father..Time will tell..
If you google "serval images" and look at random pictures of Servals, I don't see too much lynx tipping to their ears...
I think the tufts are from outcrosses - Maine Coon comes to mind as the most obvious because they have been used for F1 programs (to breed to a Serval). Since we want nice round ear tops on our Savannahs some (including myself!) have been known to pluck the tufts out of the ears before a show. Believe it or not, there are no nerve endings on the tips of the ears so the cats don't even notice it!
