Savannah F3, F4 or later

Cattery is Nevasirags in the Netherlands. Or would you like to know the name of the actual person?

I am so late to this thread, but I thought I would put my 2 cents in anyways.

I have 2 F4 SBTs. I found this breed by accident one day, when my mom made the mistake of showing me the infamous Youtube video of Magic. I have always had an obsession with Africa, and when I realized it was a breed that anyone could have, I started my research. I really wanted an F3, for the same reasons you are debating. I found the breeder I was comfortable with, and I had a time frame in my head on when I wanted my kitten coming home. I also wanted a female, and that was very important for me. My breeder had an F4 litter born first, and an F3 litter a few weeks later. I was pretty set on the F3 litter, but was open to the F4s as well, so she sent me photos of them at 2 weeks old. Well, there was my Zeddie. I took one look in her baby eyes and knew without a single doubt that she was mine.

Long story, but the point is, allow your intuition to guide you. If you can, spend time with the kittens. Type is important, but so is personality. My girl is my world. She may not be 100% type, but I adore every single thing about her. I wouldn't trade any of her quirks, personality or looks wise.

Here is a photo of both of mine. The lighter one is my female, and the reddy gold coloured one is my male.

You need to post the photo of Zeddie that was the point of no return.

I was flipping through the pictures and got through almost all the kittens without feeling the 'pull' but it was this photo that made me stop and say "That is Zeddie!" (yes, I had her really obnoxious name picked out before she was even born )

Thanks Kristin for sharing your story with me. Your F4 are really beautiful.

I thought I was happy seeing this cute F5 I posted . For a kitten she's really cute and what I'd like on a Savannah (gold, nice spots even when they could be a bit smaller and more, dark ears (a dark nose would have been perfect to make it look wild)).
Then, the night I posted the breeder's name I looked at all the F3 and F5 pictures posted in the gallery here. Only 1-2 F5s were really cute. With the F3, there were a lot. With almost all F5 I thought "I'm spending a big amount of money but only get the look of a regular cat plus spots". That somehow disappointed me. I can't judge personality yet. From my point of view most F5 have this elegant body anymore, that makes a Savannah for me.

In this case I'd prefer spending 50% more and get a F3. But even that's pretty difficult. Still waiting for the pictures of the breeder I was talking to a couple of times. Hope they show up before I have to decide for or against the F5. Let's see. I try to stay open with F3, F4, F5 but your gallery at SCC doesn't make this easy. :)

I think maybe when you see them in person you may change your mind. Its not just the spots, it is the ears, the legs, the triangular face...I've seen some really gorgeous later generations. Walking down the street with Zeddie, I've had people ask if she was a leopard, a cheetah, and ocelot...and she is only 10 lbs!

Of course, narrowing the generation down really helps in picking 'the one' but the later generations are pretty remarkable. I always wanted an F2 but I love my F4s so much that I don't really care that much anymore.
