my husband has purchased an f4 male savannha to bred with my f3 savannha female. I always heard it has to be an f5 male to be used for breedking. the kitten has a black nose therefore possible strong serval traits that in my opinion could increase his breeding potential. In your opinion, did we get scammed?

While there have been a few F4 fertile male Savannahs, it's usually more reliable to use an F5, F6 or further Savannah male for most breeding programs. The exception might be if you already have another proven stud, and can wait to see if the F4 boy will be fertile. I'm not sure if a black nose is an indication of more serval traits and thus more chance for fertility...in fact, just the opposite would be true. A much more reliable predictor of possible F4 fertility would be a father or grandfather who was an F4, as well as male siblings from past litters of the same pairing that proved fertile, but that is not a guarantee another F4 will sire kittens.

Did you get a fertility guarantee with your F4 boy along with his breeding rights? I'm a little surprised the breeder he is coming from would sell him to you unless there have been several fertile F4 boys from that pairing in the past, and they are confident he will prove for you.....

It is very interesting for me and I think for all. Explain to me please, how can you prove fertility of male... Are there any scientific methods? May be these methods are very expensive and not every one of pregnant and nursing can use them? explain to me please...I am from "dark" Russia

I am new to the Savannah world. I bought an F3 female a year and a half ago and we simply adore her. do not guess there is any way to tell if the are fertile or not. Guess time will tell and I will keep ya'll posted. Thanks for the response

Is this boy a kitten or an adult? Has he already sired any kittens? Unfortunately, the less Serval genes you have (rather than more) the the greater the possibility of fertility, which is why F5 or later are more likely to be fertile. I agree with Pam here - the best chance of him being fertile is if he has siblings who have already proven to be fertile... although that is not 100% either since my F4 boy is the only one of three males from this breeding who ever proved to be fertile.
