Second kitty en route!

Now they are rolling around and wrestling quietly. What are the signs when the wrestling escalates?

Oh, you'll know! Crashing items. Thunder of paws while being chased. Hissing, spitting. Cleared off counter and fireplace mantles. You know, stuff like that.

1st day has gone really well so far. The resident 5 month has a ton of energy and the new 9 month is amazingly patient.

Had to put the new kitty back in his safe room as he was dead tired from playing but the 5 month still wanted to play and wouldn't leave him alone.

Do they eventually establish a protocol as to when one is done and the other still wants to play?

First night together in our bedroom went well, they wrestled for a while on the bed, jumped off, all was quiet for a while. Then, one at a time, they jumped onto the bed and went to sleep. Silas (the new kitty) likes to sleep at our feet while Kyan (resident kitty) sleeps up near our head.

I do have another question, the new cat Silas is very protective of his toys, to the point of carrying them around and hissing if anyone gets close. I have banned toys for now until things settle down. Will this change with time? Is there anything I can do to change this behavior?

I am sure it gets a little better at times, but it is normal just like human kids can be very protective of their toys and you have tantrums if you ask them to "share" them....

Our cats have a basket of toys and when we see any of the possessive stuff going on such as "Mine, Mine, Mine, Hiss, Hiss" we just throw another one out there. Fortunately we're beyond anyone trying to put 8 felt mice in their mouth at one time, and there are a couple of toys that the youngest just knows are going to draw some ire. Not that it stops him, but grab and run instead of playing with them in front of he others.

Yeah, we have a cat toy box. When they get bored they get something for themselves. The servants of course have to pick up the toys wherever they are scattered and return them. Methinks this is the real goal of taking out a toy in the first place.
