Sick after flea treatment

Hi guys, just thought I'd ask if anyone has come across this problem. After putting on Vito's spot on flea treatment he was quite sick a few hours later, I always put it in the correct area between the shoulder blades, it happened the last time after using front line so this time I used Fibro tec just incase it was a reaction to the other one, but the same thing happened this time. He is a very flexible boy with long neck and seems to always manage to lick it off. I don't use flea treatments all the time only use when I know they will be going outside as I really don't like using chemicals on the boys. Never have any issues with Franco it's just Vito. Is it harmful to ingest this stuff? Any advice appreciated.

I don't use flea treatments on my cats but I'm thinking if he's licking it off you might try putting a cone on him for a few hours or even overnight after his next treatment.

With some of mine with the long necks, putting it higher up on the neck than the recommended area between the shoulder blades would prevent them being able to groom there...

Do both these products contain any of the same chemicals? If they do, maybe you could find something that doesn't have the chemicals they both have in common? My guess is it is something in particular about Vito's body that is reacting to a specific chemical, as I have used several spot on products and none have made my cats act sick afterwards... The only time I have ever seen any reaction is when HB managed to lick a bit of Advantage, and then he ran around wild eyed and drooling, which scared me, but reading the detailed product info, it said this would not make him sick, just tasted really terrible... and within a 1/2 hour he was back to normal. I find that no matter where I put it on my 2, both can get a back paw up there and will scratch the area. And WC has a typical short legged domestic build... Even if I am super careful to get each drop onto a patch of skin, once they scratch, it ends up smeared around in the fur, and probably also gets all over the back paw they use to scratch. (but higher up and a cone might work?- maybe I will give that a try?)

I would have to tie them down for a few hours to prevent this - which is obviously not something I would consider a practical solution!
Thank you very much for your advice, I think I will now check what is in the two treatments I have used and compare the ingredients, my rag doll cat always does same as HB, even when I put the treatment further up his neck he always manages to get at it and ends up drooling profusely but has never been sick. Vito does seem to be a very sensitive boy, even his first inoculations knocked him for six.

Depends on how the cat feels about it. You could put the cone on the cat after the treatment for a few hours.
Hi Sean, think that is looking like an option, I don't like using flea treatments but there is a lot of wildlife around where we live and long grass where those nasty ticks hide out. Hope Xander and Bella are well:drink:

Xander and Bella are being brats like normal.
Now if only Bella would stay out of the trash cans.
She acts more like a dog when it comes to the trash cans.
Anyone ever see a cat that loved corn husks?
