Sick Savannah help?

Thank you...I'm praying that it isn't because it would devastate our family if he did contract it.

I've contacted the breeder about this to make sure that none of those cats are infected from this incident.

So very sorry to hear about this- one of our bengals had fip and when you mentioned 'third eyelid' this was my first thought...

Crossing my fingers for you....

Bennie...One of our members recently lost his Appa to FIP. This link is very difficult to read but it does contain information on what to expect and some treatment options to keep the cat comfortable. I almost hesitate to refer you to it so if you're not ready to read about the journey that you and your cat will take with the disease, please don't.

Thank you--I will ask my vet options if it is indeed FIP

I don't know if I can read about it because I'm just tearing up right now. This is my first cat and I've never experienced the loss of any beloved animal before.

We are here to give you as much support as you want -- those who have experienced this disease and those who have not. We know what it's like to lose a member of the family, no matter the cause, and our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.

The Vet got back to me and told me that he had a very high chance of being positive for FIP. We keep no other cats in our home.

Can someone give me a brief explanation on this disease?

I'm glad Deborah already included the link to Appa's thread as I think that very informative.

The important thing to know (and most vets don't adequately explain this) is that being exposed to the Coronavirus is NOT the same as having FIP. So they likely might do a Coronavirus titer but being positive is not a diagnosis, it is merely the first piece to the puzzle. It can be very complicated to diagnose, hopefully your vet is knowledgeable on this and can guide you.

Be very very sure before accepting that as diagnosis though. Many vets will jump to that conclusion when the cat's condition is beyond simple to diagnose. There are many other conditions that can present similarly so check out www.dr-addie.com where there is a flowchart to help diagnosis as well as lots of info.

I truly hope it is NOT FIP, its so devastating :-(

Sometimes a cat with one illness will get others that make it more confusing. His cold (upper respiratory infection) may be just secondary to something else going on. The muscle wasting is very concerning. I think a blood panel would be in order to see what is going on metabolically, like FIP. Good luck.

Hoping and praying your Bennie does not have FIP. Sending healing thoughts to you and Bennie

I hope it is not FIP as well! Having an upper respiratory and not eating aren't the first indicators to me. The third eyelid comes up for any number of reasons and it sounds like he is dehydrated, weak and fighting a severe infection.

Did the vet look at his teeth? I don't want to give false hope but if he has and abscess in his mouth that would/could also be the source of his issues.

WHAT antibiotics did the vet try? What dosage and duration of treatment?
