My opinion is that contracts are simply the BASIC agreement, a breeder can choose to be more generous than the terms when it is RIGHT to do so.

Thank you Nikkia--he shows all the signs and symptoms of it so far with the red build up in his eyes and the swollen kidneys and high bilirubin levels and every other test in the flow chart but I'm still praying that it's something curable.

I'm just worried that they might default on the fact that this was after the 3 days so they have no obligation.

We're waiting on a final FIP blood test type thing and I'll have my vet send over all the bloodwork results to the breeder and send them a call about him.

When I first contacted them, they said that their sold cats had never been reported to have FIP so my cat was the first. Is there any way I could contact you privately and see what you think of the breeder? I purchased my cat from a pretty reputable breeder from what I've been told by everyone else.

I am so sorry for what you're going through.
As a breeder I've just gone through a kitten I placed that was diagnosed and put down from Suspected FIP. I also have the same clause in my contract, however, I am replacing the kitten when the time is right for them, I've also offered their money back. If there is a cattery out there that is 100% corona free I would like to know their secrets. Corona is prevalent, and as a breeder and I only have a 3 females and 2 males, so am very small and with good health and hygiene practices, I honestly wouldn't know what to do different. I have read everything on FIP and have come to the conclusion that there is still way too much unknown about it. Since we are dealing with a RNA based virus that mutates so frequently and is linked to the kittens immune system and stresses and can be linked to genetics I just hope and Pray that better testing can be done. Contact your breeder and I
am sure they will help. I wouldn't want to be left in the dark as a breeder.

My vet recommended washing all the equipment down with bleach and sundrying them but I'm not sure if there's a time to wait it out in case the virus persists in the areas I might have missed. How long would be a good wait time for the virus to 'disappear?'

I think it is 60 days, more important is the time it takes for you emotionally to be able to handle. The one who lost hers, I worked with another breeder on a replacement as I wouldn't have one soon enough and she waited 60 days. I wouldn't worry about sun drying as FIP isn't contagious it's the corona virus that is, and you can bring it into the environment. The lab at UC Davies that contained a corona free environment was reported that those cats ended up with corona virus, probably due to people carrying the virus on their clothes and handling the cats.

sorry to hear about your cat's condition. my last cat passed away of FIP (persian male cat 8 yrs old) last December, which in my case lead me to discover and get SV cats (so ironically some good came out of it in that way - of course i liked my last cat a lot and wished FIP wouldn't have gotten him). anyways, I did disinfect my whole home with lysol, etc. i introduced my first SV about 3 weeks later. no issues. I have read the FIP quarantine is not necessary...but yeh I still did 3 weeks worth of it (never can be too safe).

I am so sorry you are going through this. Do not discount the emotional toll this will take on you, these creatures have such a way of grabbing our hearts in an amazingly short period of time. Take care of yourself and allow for grieving little Bennie. You will know when you are mentally and emotionally ready for a new baby. You will find much support here, too, both in terms of knowledge as well as just listening and understanding the heartbreak.

Thank you for all your good wishes.

Ben's been refusing his food and medicine right now and spits them out whenever we tried to feed him. I think he knows that it's useless and he doesn't want to fight anymore whenever I look into his eyes. He can't walk anymore and has trouble using the litterbox he was so faithful to to the point of getting inside and getting stuck in it.
