Thanks, I did take her in first thing this morning to my vet that I trust to know a Savannah. I will find out later what they say and will keep you informed. I do think it is a virus, but she probably needs some antibiotics.

Sneezing Savannah!

Very good information! Lyra has been sleeping under the bed far less now, and her sneezing has pretty much subsided 
. She does have an occasional one here and there.. Nothing that we are too concerned with now. We placed her kennel on an oversized chair, in our bedroom, right at the foot of our bed. She sleeps inside the kennel, with the door always open, or on top of the kennel, in her kitten bed. She seems to love the move of her bed- it's almost like she can watch over us . And, the fan has been permanently shut off

Always hate bringing up the bed thing as all too often it's greeted with the thought that someone is questioning your personal hygiene. Nothing could be further from the truth and there isn't a path to do anything about it. If you ever saw what lived on your skin you would be instantly repulsed and head to the shower to scrub it off. Unfortunately, that just multiplies the bacteria and fungus without even remotely giving you any opportunity to rest easier.
BTW, it's estimated that bacteria makes up over 60% of the weight of all the earths living organisms. We are also more closely related to a tomato than two different types of bacteria can be. Totally crazy stuff and something we really know little about.

I just took my 4 month old kitten to the vet due to intermittent sneezing. Thought it might be just the fan kicking up dust and bothering her, but she did have a slight fever and a little discharge from her nose. Vet said her lungs sounded good, but prescribed antibiotics as a precaution. Sheena has not been around any other animals other than our dog except when i took her to the vet for he 1st exam so i am wondering how she could have caught something. Any thoughts about these symptoms?

Hi Heather, I hope you have already read all the other answers to this post about sneezing? Stress of some sort can bring about sneezing and the symptoms you describe, especially the fever and runny nose, and it is possible your kitten may have picked up something from the vet's office for her first visit (how long ago was that?) or some change in your home has kicked up a latent bug she is carrying....keep an eye on her for worsening symptoms, such as increased nose or eye drainage and lethargy or not eating or panting. It is true some cats can be carriers for life of a virus, and there are more than a hundred different versions of cat colds or viruses. Stress can include a new family member or pet moving in or out, a change in furniture or your working hours, really almost anything...I assume she is an indoor only kitten, as exposure to another cat or kitten outdoors, or in an outdoor enclosure with a stray cat visiting her, or on an outing could have exposed to her a virus. Since she is still quite young, you could ask her breeder if any of her cats or kittens exhibited the same symptoms, as I am assuming she has been with you for a short time?

Since we got our little ones from the same breeder, I thought might let you know that Mikono came home with a runny nose, sneezing, and discharge from his eyes. His lungs sounded good at the vet, they prescribed antibiotics (two rounds), and he still has a runny nose to this day. It's been almost a month since his last dose of antibiotics. They are telling me that it's possible that it could be a chronic condition that is brought on by excitement or stress and that he may grow out of it. I have to wonder if it's something that is prominent with the kittens/cats from our breeder? Other than his runny nose and sneezing, he seems very healthy otherwise! He's about 5lbs/4.5 months old.
If your kitten is still having a runny nose after two rounds of antibiotics I would say it's time to get a URD PCR panel and try to pinpoint what it is so that you can treat it effectively. Unfortunately, some of the most common upper respiratory diseases are viral in nature so there's really no cure, just supportive care. Sometimes in this situation antiviral medications can help as can lysine added to their food.

Yes she is an indoor only kitten and has been with us a short time. She came home appearing to be quite healthy but the initial fecal at 1st vet visit did turn up evidence of roundworms. She was treated for those and we submitted a second fecal today to confirm. This could certainly be a stressor. She appears quite energetic and healthy otherwise. The vet did mention it could be a chronic condition that appears when she is stressed. I hope this is not the case. Sad to think she might frequently be prone to this.

Sorry to hear this. Sheena was not sneezing when we first got her. I believe it started a few days ago, but vet mentioned possibility of herpes which could have been latent until now.
As Patti mentions, a PCR panel for upper respiratory pathogens is a good idea, that will tell you if it is Herpes or a number of other pathogens commonly causing those symptoms.
It may not be the breeder's fault, it can be as easy as taking a kitten to the vet. Many viruses can hang around a vet clinic and it is hard to avoid...somewhat like sitting in your doctor's waiting room and catching a cold from all the coughing and sneezing around you.
If it is Herpes, then supportive care and maybe a L-Lysine supplement will help her get through this.
