Spider time

Hi All
Pretty random question I have , and would appreciate any information. In the UK just now it's breeding season for spiders, the past few evenings there's been some huge feckers running over the floor, I don't think we get any poisonous ones here but apparently some can nip you, they are pretty huge (I'm freaked out by them)
I've noticed that if Vito spots one he'll pounce on it, hubby usually manages to get it off him and put it back outside, much to Vito's dismay, but on a couple of occasions this week, he's not been quick enough in getting to Vito and he squashes them so fast and eats them. I know cats do this sort of thing but is it anything to be concerned about, example = tummy upset or possible reaction to eating them.

I can’t answer this with any great depth of knowledge, especially as I am in Canada, not the UK, but my funky house is full of little nooks and crannies, and I probably have more spiders in my house than every one else here combined. Or did. I have so many spiders I used to sleep under mosquito net, even in the winter. And I have those same horrifyingly huge european wolf spiders that are looking for mates this time of year, scurrying across my floor, walking on the ceiling and walls above my head and hanging out beside my pillow apparently enjoying watching Netflix with me. I am absolutely terrified of spiders... IMO they just have way too many legs! WC loves catching and eating them, which I greatly appreciate, I think he spends time every night doing this, and even if I wanted to, there is no way to stop him. And I feel confident enough of his enthusiastic protection I have now been able to do without the mosquito net for the most part...My local vets never mentioned this as a possible concern when I asked about local dangers. And WC seems very healthy and has spiders as a regular part of his midnight munchies routine. But as you are in the UK your local vets would probably know best what might be dangerous to cats in your area.

I think it would be best to ask your vet since your species of spider is likely different than ours and he/she should be able to tell you if they're poisonous or otherwise harmful to ingest.

Thanks guys, think a wee call to the vet won't do any harm, I know all summer he's been devouring flies in the garden and the unlucky ones that find their way into the house, but wasn't sure what the situation was regarding spiders, especially the big ones I've spotted lately.
Roll on the end of the breeding season.
