Started as a lump on his neck...

The lump is very hard but moveable, not attached to bone. His temp was normal as was his weight (no weight loss over the two weeks since the lump appeared).

Discospondylitis...there are some symptoms which align, but he doesn't appear to be in any pain at all anywhere. He seeks and encourages affection (normal). I can't find any info on how the paralysis presents, but his limps are only on the right side right now. The vet today said he sees evidence of limpness in both front legs but I don't see it on his left side, only the right. Again, that could change in a few hours. Still good to have another possibility to examine and I'll mention it to the doc tomorrow. Again, thank you for your interest. You're being immensely helpful.

It's important to realize that cats are very very good at hiding pain... what in a dog would present as whimpering and crying, a cat will just soldier on and pretend all is well. Many don't know that purring can be a pain response too and think their sick kitty must still be happy because they purr... but they also have evolved to not show weakness, because weakness makes them prey.

i am so glad to read you've arranged Care Credit, I agree that a biopsy of the lump seems a good idea... or if there is a logical reason why this most likely is a fungal infection then trying an antifungal med instead of the antibacterial antibiotics would be worth a try too...

Hope there is good news for you and Cheshire soon!

The second opinion was the same as the first. Whatever it is has spread to the brain. Any diagnostics at this point would be an exercise in curiosity or as a contribution to veterinary medical research. Both docs felt administering any other meds or performing any tests at this point would be fruitless. Both docs offered that if it was their cat they'd make him as comfortable as possible until it was clear the time had come. The best guess is a fungal infection that spread into the brain. There has been no speculation about the relationship between the lump and the neurological issues.

He's with me and we're hanging out. Thank you again for all the support.
