It could have been much worse. Once stuck to his foot he could have tried to bite it off, than his mouth would be stuck and that would be game over. I've seen a mouse pull his own skin off trying to get free.

Anyone think its kinda ironic that a cat gets caught in a mouse trap

A asked my wife who used to work in a local vet's office. She said Dawn dish soap was the preferred method.
