That's interesting, Per! I have seen several suppliers selling salmon oil in a metal container. Are you saying that is better or that cod liver oil is better or more effective?
Cod liver oil is THE traditional source of vit D plus all the other stuff, it was only after the O3-craze started in the late 80-ies someone found that it was brimming with O-3 as well. The cats seem to like it.
As long as it´s not in capsules you can actually get a whiff (literally) of how oxidised it is (and it shouldn´t be).+++++++++ (thank you, little cat for those plusses). Salmon oil is probably just as good as cod liver oil...as long as the quality is good.

FortiFlora, for those that use this, can you please tell me where you get it? Our vet just recommended it for our nearly 16 yr. DMH that has intermittent loose stools. They charge a whopping 29.99 for a box of 30 packets. So far, the lowest price I've found with shipping is 22.94. Still not great but better than what the vet charges. Any help would be appreciated.
He also uses Cosequin for his arthritis and that is 15.99 for 55 capsules. I give one of those a day most days and a second periodically at night to keep the levels up.

Wow, thanks Paige & Brigitte. If I've done the conversion correctly the 240gram container will give me 48 doses at 1 tsp each. That is quite a bit of a cost savings. My DMH weighs 15 lbs so wonder if the 1 tsp would be enough or if I'd have to give him more. He's finally had a poop after starting the fortiflora and it smelled way less than it normally does. Hope that wasn't TMI!!!! LOL

LOL, Arline! 240 GM = 48 teaspoons...you will have to look at the recommended dosage.

LOL, just trying to break it down Paige. There are 30 packets/doses in the box I got from the vet for 29.99. So for $11.54, I could get 48 doses of this stuff w/shipping. From what the link above shows, it's 1 tsp for 10+ lb cat. He weighs 15 lbs. Then if he likes it and does well on it, I could get the bigger bottle for even more of a savings. Or I could order 3 of the 240 Gm bottles and get 144 doses for only $2.22 more than what I paid for the 30 doses of the fortiflora from the vet. LOL Dang!!!!! LMAO
OK, enough of the economical comparison for now. ;-)
I think it's past my bed time. "giggle:
