Yes I brush all my animal's teeth I also have a set of dental picks so when I find the hard stuck on plaque I can chip that right off. My vet says my 3 year old Ragdoll's teeth look amazing.

Dry does help clean their teeth- but it kinda goes in this order...

Bone in raw because the cat has to work to get the meat off the bones and therefore, this helps clean the teeth

However- then you have to think... What is the best for your cat's kidneys over the years? Odd thing to think about- but cats on dry food generally intake a lot less water which is bad for their kidneys. In this situation, it probably goes raw/wet and then kibble as your distant third choice.

So you have the debate- what is more important to take care of? Teeth, which can be cleaned, or kidneys, which it seems we are seeing younger and younger cats develop kidney disease compared to days past?

Just food for thought.

Wasn't sure about the dry - thanks Trish...I would feed everything before dry But I do use dry a bit for Taj and Cisco, who has been on dry since a kitten

I'm going to order some. I don't want to have my dog put under to have her teeth cleaned and our vet keeps mentioning she is getting more and more buildup. If it works it will be worth the price and then I can use it also for Matojo if he ever needs it.

Am I wrong to assume dry cleans their teeth? Ive heard mixed reviews and never remembered to ask till now? Mine are on a dry/wet with some raw diet. More so the dry is to snack on in my eyes

I can attest that it doesn't. I have one cat who doesn't like raw and his teeth are not so good. I just noticed it lately. I think the best is to get them to chew a whole leg or whole part of some type so they are usuing the cutting action of their back teeth or do whole prey.

I don't find that brushing or sprays do it when I worked at the vet. I have seen people spend $$ on dental diets, chew, and enzyme sprays when I was dying to say- "just give your dog a bone". Their use may delay issues tho.

Dental plaque actually effect the kidneys as the production of bacteria into the system is toxic the kidneys. I have seen animals with pending kidney failure turn around because the issue in their mouth is cleaned up. Granted, they had really bad plaque issues that were long ignored and rotten teeth as well. Still....

As a kid, my cats got fed the nastiest supermarket crap food but I think they did okay because they got to hunt and eat whole prey. My mom felt that an animal goes to the vet 3 times. Once for shots, once to be altered, and once to euthanize them. Sad but true.
