Thanks, it was definitely a very difficult time losing Kai... he was the sweetest, most affectionate kitten. While I absolutely love Shango, I will always miss Kai (my avatar pic).

I honestly didn't notice any changes in behavior or mood after Shango was neutered. He was just as playful & affectionate after the neuter as he was before.

Now that he's getting older, about 10 months old, I am starting to notice some minor changes. He's started to calm down & nap a little more now vs when he was younger. He's never really liked visitors, but the older he gets the more he prefers to keep his distance. He still gets over-stimulated and nips, but he's gotten a lot better... but I think that is more just maturing and learning that I don't support his aggressive play. I've just had to be very persistent with training. He's also gotten to be a little more independent. Before he would always have to nap on my lap or be in the same room with me, but now he's ok with napping in his cat tree, the bedroom or wherever he wants (sometimes still on my lap). He's always been inquisitive and would get into anything & everything... that has probably only gotten worse since the older/bigger he gets the more he can get into lol!

"that has probably only gotten worse since the older/bigger he gets the more he can get into lol!" - Thats my big fear, I am closing doors at the moment, but the little guy makes a jump for the handle and hangs there for a second. Hes figured it out but doesn't have the weight yet to open it haha :D

Do you find he naps more during the day or at night? Also how often does he want to play now that hes a bit older?

He naps more during the day. Lately he isn't ready for bed until 12am-2am and then he gets up at 8-9am. Sometimes I hear him wake up in the middle of the night and he goes for a quick run on his cat wheel before he goes back to sleep.

He still likes to play a lot. He usually plays 1-2 hours in the morning, an hour around lunch, another hour between 3-4pm, then he takes me on our evening walk for 30 min to 1.5 hrs around 5-6pm, then he plays for 1-2 hours before bed. On the days the weather doesn't allow for an evening walk, he wants to play even longer before winding down for bedtime.

Sometimes when he's going through a growth spurt, he gets extra lazy and only plays 2-3 hours total a day and spends the rest of the time relaxing in the sun and napping.

I have the one fast cat wheel since it was the cheapest. Now that shango is bigger/heavier, he was knocking it off track when he got running really fast. I had my dad build me a heavy base for it (1.5-2" thick oak with heavy granite tile on top of the wood) and mounted the wheel base to it so its heavy enough to keep the wheel from wobbling too much and haven't had any problems since then. The go cat wheel appears to be much better quality, but it's also more $. He uses the wheel on a daily basis so I'm definitely glad I got him one.

Oh wow they are a lot! over 500 canadian, never would of pictured that! But I guess it's worth it if it makes him happy :D

They are pricey

I got the OFC wheel for $199 plus free shipping. I love that the Go Pet wheel comes in a 60" dia, but at $1320 it's by far the most expensive. The go cat wheel is still just 48" dia (same as OFC), but more than double the price of the OFC wheel. I'm sure it's made better, but for the price difference I'm happy with the OFC wheel and Shango seems to like it just fine.
