I like that scratching post, we have a couple of those but my cats use them as scratchers as well as perching on top. I got the perches for the top of the post but found I had to screw them into place as a flying Savannah would often slide the perch off the top of the post!

Part of the thinking during our kitchen remodel was kitty paws on hot stovetops...the induction cooktop improves that for us... but for more standard burners I think there are covers that are effective when you are finished cooking and want to leave the room but the stovetop is hot.

Brigette, I understand and agree with your stove concerns. I have a gas range. Everyone of them steer clear at the slightest hint of heat.

I found mine were cautious about the burners when we had a gas stove, but then have read stories of injuries... guess cats are like toddlers that can jump so accidents are entirely possible.

We actually had a weird situation with our older SV boy... its something that some cats apparently can do... the trace odor of gas from the pilot light triggered him to wish to pee on the stovetop. It was a daily (and sometimes more often) cleaning situation. Quite the nightmare, so when we remodeled an induction cooktop was a compromise we made for the cats... sadly Bobo passed away since :-(

I never thought of the induction top... but I used to have one at my old house... If I get lucky on this new job, I think I will get one... I have already been wanting a new stove anyway, because the one I have is a cheap piece of crap... When I bought the house, they put a new one in and put the cheapest thing they could....

I really liked the induction cooking, but a word of caution to those who like to use Cast Iron... You can use it with no problems, but DON'T SLIDE IT ON THE TOP.... It will scratch it and will shorten its life span.

I won't use Aluminum to cook anything in... The aluminum can get into your food and is very bad for human consumption.

It seems to have become more common in cookware again. I was never a fan...but it just is not a possibility with induction!

I used to have a cat tree in my kitchen and it worked great with for cats - I rarely had a problem with them getting on the counters. Eventually though I moved it into one of my enclosures, so the counters became free range for the cats again
