I like that cat tree Bridget!

We have a gas range, and I refuse to leave the kitchen until it is cool. Mickey is not smart enough to realize it is hot. If I have to leave the kitchen, the cats get picked up and come with me.

John, regarding the oven, we have a routine. I get the treats out and put them on the counter, one treat on each dish. The kitties sit and whine. I open the oven and check/remove the food. The dishes go down on the floor and everyone gets a treat. If anyone moves during the waiting period between treat on plate and plate on floor, that kitty gets picked up and put back down where he is supposed to be, and he is the last kitty to get his treat. I do make sure the treat dishes are not on the counter next to the oven. Treats are always more interesting to my boys than what is in the oven.

Anyone use a crock pot with SV's at home? Mine has been gathering dust since oct 2011 out of fear.

I use mine all the time... Elsa either does not get close to it, or just plain ignores it... Mine is a larger 6 quart version. I did catch her standing back a ways and sniffing when I had a roast cooking, but she only sniffed and just walked around it.... to get over to the Kitchen Computer, which for some reason she is very curious about.

I use a crockpot, too, without incident. Really, for some odd reason, our cats don't bother me so much when I am cooking (a rare ocurrence, anyway ;) The few times a year I go all out and cook a big family meal, I sequester the gang in one of our bedrooms for that time.

I have had to remove the knobs from our gas stove, however. Twice we woke up to one of the burners turned on...apparently by one of the kitties climbing and using the stove knob as a hiking tool; such a great ghetto look with the knobs removed, but better safe than sorry. I also either wait nearby until the burner grates are cooled after cooking, put them in the oven to cool off, or leave a clean frying pan overturned atop of it in case a cat decides to jump on the stove.

I have also had to remove the knobs on my stove as I had a cat turning on the burners. It's a PIA but at least I know the cats are safe when my back is turned.

You can get knob covers in the kid safety section. Real easy to use.

Sent from my so called smartphone so all typos and bad advice can be blamed on said "smart" phone ;)

Really? I've never seen knob covers for stove knobs! I've used the ones for regular doors, and an entire assortment of other baby safety equipment, but that is one I've not come across before!.0

I have a set of stove knob covers I picked up somewhere. I've never used them. I think i secretly enjoy feeling martyred that I had to remove my stove knobs because of the cats ;0
